Arkansas Alpha Delta Kappa
October 2018
Happy October & Fall
What a wonderful Leadership Conference we had. It was great to see so many of our sisters from around the state. Hopefully, all that attended were able to gain some knowledge about our organization. I am looking forward to visiting three Founder’s Day events this month. I will be in Little Rock on Oct 8th with Alpha, Tau, Alpha Psi, and Alpha Mu chapters; Oct 16th in Hot Springs with Iota, Theta, Alpha Epsilon and Alpha Beta; and Oct 29 for Mu and Psi in El Dorado. I wish you a happy fall, with nature’s most beautiful show of colors. However, we need to remember that October is AΔK Month. Let us not forget how very special and exceptional we are, as an organization and as individuals chosen to belong by other outstanding educators. Let us EXPLORE THE WORLD OF AΔK to seek out other outstanding women to share with us where and how we started, and most importantly where we are going. Fellowship and fun with interesting programming will have your local teachers seeking out your chapter. It certainly is not a trick, that Alpha Delta Kappa is the best treat. Happy fall colors and a wonderful AΔK Month.

Raising money for the Ronald McDonald House
Members purchased tickets from Ways and Means Chairman, Ann Holcomb, Alpha Rho and Jan West, Rho, for a chance to win items. Proceeds went toward our State Altruistic Project, Ronald McDonald House. A total of $564 was raised.
World Understanding
As SCR WU chair, I am challenging every chapter in every SCR state to contribute at least $25 to Teach Too!, the new adopted WU project for 2018-2019. Please send me a note, listing your chapter name and state and how much your donation was--when it is made by June 15. I will try to have statistics at our next Convention to share with SCR members. My email is shankles08@gmail.com
You can read about it in the August Kappan or look on the website to tell more about what it is about. Each chapter should have one or two World understanding programs per year and there are lots of good ideas arranging from inviting an Iman to come tell about the tenants of Islam or teachers who have taught abroad to just your members who have traveled on mission trips or to exotic places.
Also, I have a ppt I can share with the state WU chair. It is large and would have to be shared using google drive or dropbox. Contact me if you need this ppt to do a program or if some chapter has asked for a ppt to use.
Thanks in advance
Rachel Shankles,

Disaster Relief
9/17/18: At this time, we have heard of members suffering damage to property, but, thankfully, we have not heard of any members suffering personal injury. Our sisters have been, and are being, affected by natural disasters in multiple locations. Let us keep them in our thoughts and prayers at this time as they assess their damage and work to move forward. There are many agencies who are moving to get supplies and assistance to those in need according to news reports.
Keeping up with the weather and disasters of this magnitude is difficult at times. Please keep in touch and let us know if you have something to be shared or reported regarding our Alpha Delta Kappa family. Let us pull together and embrace our sisters with support, love and care who are in need at this time. What can we do?
The Alpha Delta Kappa Foundation has a line item in its budget for disaster relief. Donations can be sent to the Alpha Delta Kappa Foundation and you can indicate on the subject/memo line “disaster relief” or more specifically to an S/P/N (ex: Louisiana flooding). Online donations may also be made through the website. When it is specific to a S/P/N, those monies will be sent to the S/P/N treasurer and that S/P/N Disaster Relief Committee will decide how to distribute the funds to assist our members affected. A donation with only “disaster relief” will go into the fund and be distributed as needed depending on the number of inquiries. Your donation is tax deductible and you will receive a donation statement for tax purposes in January. Thank you so much for your continued support!
