We had a productive week! Please encourage your scholar to make good choices and to put forth maximum effort daily
All scholars must wear their ID's to enter the building, class, and bus... NO EXCEPTIONS. This is for the safety of our campus. If they need to replace their ID it will cost $5 dollars. If they need a temporary ID, it cost $1.00 daily. Students may turn their phone in as collateral to receive a temporary ID but, must pay the $1.00 to get it back. A table will be set up at all points of entry for scholars to purchase a temporary ID or replacement ID prior to entering the building
Open Containers fast food:
Scholars will not be allowed to enter the building late and/or walk around school with food or open containers from fast-food restaurants.
Not Acceptable at School:
-Slides/House Shoes, Hats, Du Rags ( Leave them at home!)
-Scholars are not allowed to wear tights, spandex and/or Form Fitting clothing of any kind
-Dresses and skirts must be the appropriate length from the knee ( Top of a Horizontal ID from the Knee).- A link to the standard of dress is attached to this newsletter.
10 and 10
- Scholars are not allowed to leave a classroom during the first 10 minutes and the last 10 minutes for anything less than an emergency.
Random Tardy Sweeps
This means our staff will walk the halls after passing periods to make sure students are in class and not in the hallways. Students who are found in the hallway without a pass will receive consequences. Five minutes is a sufficient amount of time to get anywhere on our campus. Students who are habitually late without a pass from a teacher will be assigned In School Suspension ( ISS).
Schedules for Spring 2020
Spring 2020 schedules can be located via Skyward.
Schedule changes will be made for the following reasons:
1. Academic misplacement – The student is placed in the wrong level of class (Honors/Dual Credit/AP), or is placed in a class without meeting the pre-requisite.
2. Program change- Student has been accepted into an academic program or the student is no longer enrolled in a specific program of study (choir, band, athletics AP, etc.).
3. Missing an academic class- Student is missing a core class such as English, history, math, or science.
4. Missing a graduation requirement- Student is missing a course necessary to graduate in the upcoming school year.
5. To balance classes so that overcrowding does not occur.
Schedules will not be changed for the following reasons:
1. The student does not like the teacher.
2. Parent does not like the teacher.
3. The teacher does not like the student.
4. The teacher is “too hard.”
5. The teacher is “not hard enough”.
6. The teacher gives too much work.
7. The student is failing the class.
8. The class is perceived by the student to be too difficult.
9. To change the student’s lunch.
10.To have classes with friends.
Personality conflicts will not be justification for changing a class. All conflicts need to be resolved in a mature, professional manner. We ask that the student and parent first take the responsibility to meet with the teacher and work through the problem. If a resolution cannot be reached, then the parent or teacher should contact an administrator to meet about the issue. If a class change is granted by the administration, it will be based on space availability and with the least impact to the student’s schedule. Course changes must be completed within the first 10 days of each semester. If a student adds a course after 10 days, he or she possibly would not receive full semester credit for the course.

Cedar Hill ISD is partnering with BrightBytes, an educational data analytics company, in order to help us understand your child’s access and use of technology both at school and at home.

Why complete the application? Those who qualify are eligible for SAT/ACT fee waivers and potential college application fee waivers
- It is imperative that scholars arrive at school on time each day. Doors to the building open at 7:45 AM. The tardy bell rings at 8:15 AM. Scholars who are persistently late will receive consequences. Scholars arriving late need to eat or discard of food before they will be allowed to report to class.

Make-Up Final Exams
Any student who missed a final exam will receive a grade of “Incomplete” for their semester grade.They will have the opportunity to contact the teacher during the first two weeks of the spring semester to take the final exam and receive the appropriate letter grade for the class.

A Parent Must Have!!!
Family Access is a web-based service that allows parents/guardians to view school-related information on their students. Information available includes:
- General student demographic information
- Discipline records
- Health records
The information in Family Access is 'real time' based on data in the District's Skyward Student Information Management System. However, remember that grades are 'fluid' and change daily/weekly as the teachers add assignments and grades to the system.
Family Access is secured by a unique username and password for each user to assure security and privacy.

If you have forgotten your username or password you can click the Forgot Password Link on the Family Access homepage, contact your student’s home campus office, or send an email to email@example.com.
Parent Classroom Visitation Request
- Requests shall be submitted to the campus principal a minimum of 48 hours in advance to properly have administrative supervision.
- All visitors to the school must conduct themselves so as not to interfere with the daily operation of the school program.
- Visitors should not interact with the staff during instruction,
- Visitors should not attempt to interact with students during the observation
- Visitors should not cause a distraction or disruption to the educational process.
- If the visit is deemed a distraction by either the teacher or principal, the visitor will be asked to end the observation.
- No children or additional guest will be allowed to attend
- Observations will be limited to 30 minutes
Have a Concern at CHHS/NGC?
We are often in classes offering support to teachers. We ask that you avoid showing up to the campus unannounced requesting meetings. We will often be unavailable. Please take the time to schedule a meeting with the appropriate individual, following the step below, and we will be happy to address any concerns you may have.
Step One: Contact the teacher/coach/or director and have a meeting/phone conference
Step Two: Contact the Grade Level Assistant Principal/Dean (all issues or grades) or Counselor (schedules/ mental health/academic advisement)
Step Three: Contact the Principal (if a school-wide concern, this becomes step one)
Disruptions on Campus
Social Media Safety
You have an obligation to monitor your child's social media account. Social media can be a phenomenal source of communication, however, it also has the potential to be detrimental. Please speak with your scholar about the dangers of social media. Incidents from social media spill over to the school or home without the parent or administrators knowing about anything until it happens.
Know what your kids are doing and help us be able stop to issues that start via social media!
All students have received a 2019-2020 school ID
The ID is expected to be worn around the neck daily
In the event that they forget the ID, a temporary can be purchased for $1.00
If the scholar does not have a dollar, they can leave their phone as collateral to receive a temporary ID and pay the dollar at the end of the day.
If they need to replace their ID the cost is $5.00
Parking Passes for Cedar Hill High School Students
- The form can be picked up in the SRO office at CHHS
- The student must have a valid Drivers License and proof of insurance.
- The parking decal cost $25
- Consequences for not having a parking pass will be tickets and potentially receiving a boot on the vehicle.
Bow Tie Tuesday
We are starting BOW TIE TUESDAY at Cedar Hill HS and Ninth Grade Center . The concept of Bow Tie Tuesday was originally created in an effort to inspire school spirit, increase morale and build team spirit among staff and students. Wear your bow tie every Tuesday! Encourage your scholar to wear them…. Let's build the Cedar Hill community together.

We are proud to hear that many of you are working on college applications. Here are some things to think about as you complete the process.
ACT/SAT TEST FEE WAIVERS
If you plan to take or retake the ACT and /or SAT scholars with free or reduced lunch can receive test fee waivers. If you participated in an SAT School Day (at Cedar Hill High
School or another high school) and had free or reduced lunch at that time, you will have two test fee waivers in your College Board Account. When you log in to your College Board Account, look for ‘Accept you SAT waiver benefits’. If you do not see this, continue to register for the test. At the payment portion it will ask if you have a waiver. If you cannot select that option, that means your waivers are there. If it tries to charge you, save, log out and request an SAT waiver from your counselor (see directions below). ACT test fee waivers are requested from your counselor. Complete a waiver request form, at the receptionist’s desk, and leave the form with the receptionist. Your counselor will send a pass for you once the waiver has been processed.
COLLEGE APPLICATION WAIVERS
Once you take the ACT or SAT with a test fee waiver, you qualify for college application waivers. SAT will load four college application waivers in your College Board account. Log in to your College Board account. Select mySAT. Scroll toward the bottom of the page to ‘print view you college application waivers’. Open the waivers and type in your email and phone number on the first waiver. You DO NOT need to put your social security number. Click on the next waiver and your email and phone number will populate on the additional three waivers. These waivers have a unique code. Print two sets.One set you will sign and mail to the college(s). On the other set, write the name of the college you sent the waiver to, to keep track of which waiver went to which college If a college says they did not receive the waiver, you will know the correct waiver to resend. If you took the ACT, request an ACT college application waiver from your counselor. Use your SAT waivers first. If you qualify for free or reduced lunch but paid to take the ACT and SAT you can still request college application waivers from your counselor. The National Association of College Admissions Counselors (NACAC) offered fee waivers for students in this situation. If you are applying to an HBCU, check to see if the school is a member of Common Black College Application before using an ACT, SAT or NACAC fee waiver or paying the fee. For ACT or NACAC college application waivers, complete a waiver request form, at the receptionist’s desk, and leave the form with the receptionist. Your counselor will send a pass for you once the waiver has been processed.
COLLEGE APPLICATION FEES AND APPLY TEXAS
If you are completing applications on Apply Texas, at the end when it requests payment, select waiver. If you do not qualify for a waiver select pay the institution. Do not make payment to Apply Texas. You may change your mind about an application you submit. You want to have control over whether or not the college gets the application fee.
TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY AT COLLEGE STATION/UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN AND COLLEGE APPLICATION FEES
Cedar Hill High School is a member of Texas Advance Program with the University of Texas at Austin and we are a Century Scholar School with Texas A&M University at College Station. These memberships wave the application fee for these two universities for all Cedar Hill High School seniors. If you apply to the University of Texas at Austin or Texas A&M University, request their waiver during the payment portion of the application.
COMMON BLACK COLLEGE APPLICATION
Cedar Hill ISD has paid the fee for all of our seniors to join Common Black College Application. This membership will waiver the college application fee to 56 HBCUs. Select APPLY NOW, set up your account then enter chhs2019 in PROMO CODE.
DALLAS COUNTY PROMISE
Be sure to complete the Dallas County Promise steps. Dallas County Promise should be an option that all of our seniors have on the table in May.

Primary Election- Student Clerk Workers Wanted!!!
It’s that time again when we start looking for Student Clerk Workers for the upcoming Tuesday, March 3, 2020, Primary Election. With each election a new application must be filled out and submitted. It is very important that each student is aware of the steps and criteria you must meet in order to work on Election Day.
PLEASE NOTE THAT AN APPLICATION SUBMISSION DOES NOT GUARANTEE A PLACEMENT. Applications must be legible, timely, and students must communicate with the Elections Department, their parents, and the Election Judge. DEADLINE for application submission is Friday, January 31, 2020 for the Tuesday, March 3, 2020 Primary Election. Students will be sent an email on this date and will be prioritized for placement by the date and time of their response back. You can EMAIL your application to: (firstname.lastname@example.org) or FAX (214-819-6301).
Pay Rate: $12/hour, maximum of 14 hours. Also, 17 service hours can be acquired by participating.
Applications: Since this election will be conducted on a Tuesday. The principal’s signature will be required. A parent’s signature is not required when the student is 18 years of age. Age is not the determining factor for the program, so any student still in school that is 16 years or older (including those over 18) are eligible until they graduate. **Please, write legibly!** The APPLICATION IS ATTACHED TO THE NEWSLETTER.
Questionnaire: After an application has been submitted, students will receive an email from our department with a link to our questionnaire. Students will need to complete and submit their questionnaires.
TRAINING: Students are required to attend training. The training schedule has not been finalized at the moment. Once the training days have been established, you will receive an email with the following signup dates.

The fall semester of your senior year is now behind you and the spring semester will be an exciting time for Cedar Hill High School seniors. The approaching graduation signifies the end of a high school career and recognizes the hard work and commitment from both the scholar and their families.

The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for the class of 2020 opened October 1st. If you want any financial assistance with paying for college you will need to complete your FAFSA. FAFSA is a free application for college-bound (trade school, technical school, two-year college or four-year college) scholars to see if they qualify for federal grants, loans and/or work study.
- Grants-money that does not need to be paid back
- Loans-money that is borrowed and will need to be paid back
- Work Study-students are given a part-time job,with pay, on campus
Completing the application does not obligate you to take what is offered, it just lets you know what you qualify for. If you do not think you will qualify for grants, it is still important to complete the FAFSA. Colleges have several grants and scholarships and not all are need based. There can be merit based grants and/or scholarships you may qualify for but you will not be considered unless you submit a completed FAFSA. Many private scholarships require a completed FAFSA as well.
The first step in completing the FAFSA is for you and at least one parent to obtain a FSA ID. A FSA ID allows you (if you filed taxes) and your parent to electronic link your FAFSA to the IRS to download a previous year's tax information. Current seniors starting college in the fall of 2019 will need to submit 2018 tax information. Your FSA ID also allows you and your parent to electronically sign your FAFSA. If your FAFSA is not signed electronically, it has to be printed, signed and mailed to the Federal Student Aid Office and to each college. This could delay the process. The grant and scholarship money could be gone by the time the paperwork is received and processed.
Be sure to save the username, password and email address used to create the FSA ID. I suggest to make FAFSA a contact on your phone. Most phones have a note section under each contact where this information can be saved..
2020 graduates should be completing the 2020-21 FAFSA. If you plan to take college classes in the summer of 2020, after graduation, you need to complete the 2019-2020 FAFSA as well.

Food Deliveries to Campus
Cedar Hill High School and Cedar Hill Ninth Grade Center will not allow food deliveries via UberEats, DoorDash,GrubHub, etc. Students who violate this policy, will be subject to consequences and their food WILL NOT be delivered. Food Deliveries are only allowed by parents, guardians, or someone listed on the emergency contact list for the student and must be received in the main office before the assigned lunch period. Lunch will not be extended because a students was waiting on food.
We welcome parents to come and eat with their scholar. Please email the appropriate grade level administrator 24 hours prior to wanting to visit.
All CHISD students need to complete the Lunch Application! The district has a goal of 100% of our parents complete the application. If you have not completed the application, please do so.
E-Cigarettes, Vapes, and Juul's are a nationwide problem. Cedar Hill HS , would like to provide you some informational resources so that you are in the know of the dangers that E-Cigarettes pose.
