Just a few reminders & updates
- As we prepare for the remainder of the school year, questions have come in about field trips to places like grades 3-5 bowling, the 4th/5th grade trip to Madison. Unfortunately, we will not be able to move forward with those field trips this school year.
- There is no supervision on the playground before 7:20am. Please do not drop your child off at school before this time.
- We are running low on hats & mittens. Please look around if you have any extra sets at home to send to school with your child for the days they inevitably forget them in the car.
News from 3rd Grade!
In literacy we are working hard on Module 2: Adaptations and the Wide World of Frogs. The module began with students reading poetry and pourquoi tales about different kinds of frogs. Right now the students are writing their own fictional pourquoi tale to answer a "Why" question about frogs. After that they will research to find real answers to their frog questions and write paragraphs to share their research.
In math we just started Module 4: An Introduction to Area. Through exploration students will work with square units (square cm and in.) to create rectangles with the same area but different side lengths. Then we will relate the total area with the multiplication of the side lengths. Also, we continue to work on our math facts, reviewing addition and subtraction, and learning multiplication and division.
In science, we are currently studying Invisible Forces: Force, Motion, and Magnets. So far the students have made Hopper Poppers, which were propelled by the force of a rubber band and a paper bridge strong enough to support as many pennies as possible. They also participated in The Great Slide Challenge. They made "sliders" out of different materials (cardboard, foam, sandpaper, and metal bottle caps) and tested which materials had the most friction and which ones had the least friction. When we return to school they will have fun with some magnet activities!
Thanks for all of your support and help at home,
Mrs. Golisch
Goal of the Week - "Grow Kindness"
For the remainder of the month, students will be sharing random acts of kindness that they demonstrated outside of school. They will fill out a paper flower, and we will fill our hallway with a field of kindness.
When students turn in a paper flower, they will get 3 flower suckers. We ask that the students keep one for themselves and then give the other 2 away as another way outside of school to show an act of kindness.
Thank you for your collaboration as we Grow KINDNESS!
