Attea Flyers
School Newsletter for Parents
Week of August 16
Hello, Attea Families.
As we approach the official first day of the school year, we want to provide information in order to help students and parents feel ready for Wednesday morning. At the same time, we know that a lot of information has been sent already, so this newsletter focuses on the most pertinent beginning-of-year items. Please don't hesitate to reach out to the school office with any questions you have (847-486-7700).
We look forward to seeing our student Flyers back soon.
Monday, August 16 Activities at School
On Monday morning we welcome families that are new to District 34. There will be a presentation of our middle school program followed by time to explore the school building.
Welcome Back to School "Move-In" Day:
Students who signed up will get their locker assignment, with time to move in and tour the building.
*** If you were not able to sign up for the "Move-In Day" event, have no fear. Teachers will provide students time and support during this first week to move into their locker. However, students should not bring supplies on Wednesday. They should bring something to write with and on. Teachers will provide information about when to bring supplies.
Vaccine Clinic:
From 12:00-2:00pm families who are interested can get a COVID vaccine for free. Information and registration will be at the Student Entrance, which is on the east side of Attea closest to the Park Center.
How will my child know what to do on Wednesday morning?
The first day of school is a Late Start Wednesday (see the 21-22 School Day section below).
ALL students will go to their first B Block (Blue) class. This will be a student's math, language arts, science, or social studies class. Students can find the class and its location by going to the PowerSchool app on their iPad and following the steps shown below.
As you might expect, there will be plenty of adults around to help students who are unsure about where to go or how to find it.
Student Schedule Questions
Where is my child's school schedule? Students and parents may already be able see schedule information in PowerSchool or Schoology. If not, they will all be published by Wednesday. Please note that student schedules may change as we continue to work out individual or school-wide scheduling issues. On Wednesday, teachers will guide students to read their schedules so they know which classes they have in what order.
What if the schedule is not correct? By Wednesday student schedules should be in good shape, but we will continue working to fix any errors or problems. Students should talk to one of their teachers about any issue, and the teacher will guide the student to the next appropriate step.

Student Arrival to and Departure from School
Morning Bus Routes: By now parents should have received bus information directly from the District's Transportation Dept. If you have not, please contact Transportation directly at 847- 514-3517. Bus transportation will be in place for students on the first day of school for those students entitled to bus service.
The morning "activity run” is currently only available to choir, band, and orchestra students.
The regular "morning run” delivers students to school by 8:00am daily to ensure that all students are in place for the start of the school day.
Drop-off's, Walkers, & Bike Riders
Students dropped off by car will need to enter the building through the Athletic Entrance on the west side of the building. The image below shows the traffic pattern we ask all parents to follow. Drivers should not stop before the Pedestrian Safety Zone, and should not not drive into the bus parking lot.
Students who ride a bike can use a bike rack in the front or rear of the building and can enter the building through the Athletic Entrance or Bus Parking Lot entrance.
Students who walk can enter the building through the Athletic Entrance or Bus Parking Lot entrance.
After-school Bus Information
The regular "afternoon run” will take students home after, and the buses typically depart by 3:20pm.
The after-school "activity run,” (aka Late Bus) provides transportation for students who remain after school for intramurals, clubs, or extra help. Currently, only students who are participating in scheduled activities may remain at school and access the late bus. The late buses typically depart Attea by 4:25 p.m.
After-school Parent Pick-up
- As shown in the image below, parent pick-up is on the west side of the building at the Athletic Entrance. Although the line can be long at times, we urge parents not to wait at the Park Center or park in the parking lot and have students walk over. The Park Center is not our property and parent traffic too often impedes Park Center activities, at times even including preventing emergency vehicles from easily accessing the building.
