Tuesday Times
Havelock North Primary School - 8th November 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou,
Here's hoping for a fine day on Friday for the Blast in the Park. Steve and the committee are all set to go so all we need is for the weather gods to be on our side.
Community Consultation
Tomorrow a survey will come out asking our community some questions about the school and ideas for continuing to improve what we offer. The Board would value your feedback to help inform strategic planning.
Chess
Well done to the HNPS chess team who enjoyed a great day out at the Hawke's Bay District Chess Tournament last Friday. A special congratulations to Reuben Buckley who took out second place in the Year 5 section. Thank you to Mrs Burrough for managing the team and to the parents who supported us too.
Robotics
Well done to our Robotics Team who competed for the first time in the regional competition held at Lucknow School over the weekend. Adelaide, Brooke, Lucah and Alex did a fantastic job finishing a very creditiable 8th = out of 26 teams. A special thank you to Mr Harman who gave up his Saturday to coach the team. Thank you also to the parents for their support.
Classes 2023
Student Placement Considerations for 2022
While we do not encourage parent requests, if there is something specific that we may not already know about your child that could impact our class placement decision making, please contact me on principal@hnps.school.nz by Friday 18th November. A list of teacher placements for 2023 can be found below.
Our teachers spend a lot of time and consideration in placing students and they are the ones who know the students the best in the classroom setting. Sometimes teachers see a need to break up combinations of students. It must be remembered that it is good for children to learn to make new friends and broaden their horizons. It is in fact an important social skill.
Parents also need to remember that all classes need an equal number of boys and girls where possible and an equal number of learning and behavioural needs too. It is quite a complex process. We would never leave your child in a class for an extended period of time where they were unhappy. Sometimes we just need to give things a go. Thank you for your understanding.
Quote of the week
“I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life, and that is why I succeed.” —Michael Jordan
Have a great week everyone.
Ngā mihi

Peak Trail Blazer
We are just over a week away from the Peak Trail Blazer on the 20th November and the organising committee is in full swing.
It’s been great to see the Peak Trail Blazer T-shirts being worn around school. We have a few extra t-shirts in certain sizes, so if your child missed out and would like a t-shirt, please get in touch.
We are looking for volunteers who can help marshal on the morning of the event, 20th November, or help with registration on November 19th from 12 - 2 pm. We would really appreciate the support so if anyone can lend a hand, we would be very grateful.
Entries have been going strong and we aren’t too far away from selling out the Tainui Trail, so please make sure you get your entries in so you don’t miss out.
If you can help, please contact Catherine Wedd on 0212886770 or peaktrailblazer@hnps.school.nz
