Adams Elementary
From the Principal
Where has the year gone? It seems we say that every spring as another school year draws to a close. It has been a very good year for us at Adams Elementary.
We have received and experienced many blessings during the 2018-2019 school year including new desks and chairs for all students as well as new tables for classrooms and teachers, additional Chromebook carts so that it is now easier for all students to have access to digital information and learning, changes in our car rider drop off and pick up that have helped keep everyone safer, the first year for e-learning days, the introduction of Guided Reading and increased reading stamina for all students, the first-ever MATH Bowl team and Robotics teams, some awesome convocations, incredible support from the Adams PTS organization, new testing format with ILEARN, and the addition of another bus so existing buses aren’t so crowded.
This is by no means an exhaustive list but just a few that come to mind as I reflect on the year. More than these things, though, what pops into my mind is how much our students have grown throughout the year. Sure, they have physically matured and gotten taller and longer. But more than that we have celebrated the emotional and academic growth of our students. They are more patient than they were on Aug. 1, 2018. They are much better readers than they were on Aug. 1, 2018. They are more articulate than they were on Aug. 1, 2018. They are better able to self-regulate than they were on Aug. 1, 2018. They have worked hard to gain these skills, and we are as proud of their efforts as we are of their achievements.
The staff here at Adams Elementary is truly remarkable. Each and every person here works for the betterment of all students. Teacher appreciation week is May 6 – 10, and I urge you to share your appreciation with the teachers and staff members who work diligently with all children each and every day. Just a short note can often be the ray of sunshine that makes a huge difference in someone’s day.
It is with mixed emotions that we bid farewell to our fifth-grade students. Many of them have been in our family since kindergarten, and it is difficult to watch them leave. All of our fifth graders have shown tremendous growth in the aforementioned areas since August, and we have enjoyed watching them bloom. We wish them nothing but the best in the future as they leave for the next steps in their journey and thank them for leaving pieces of themselves behind in the footprints they have made on our hearts.
As my first complete year as the principal at Adams Elementary comes to a close I want to thank you for allowing me the privilege of serving in this capacity. It is a service I truly enjoy and love. I learn something new every day from our little friends and our adult friends, and I treasure this experience.
It is my wish that the upcoming summer break is a happy and healthy one for all of our families.
Kind regards,
Jaci Greig

Important Med Pick Up Reminder
If your child has medication in the school clinic, all medications are required to be transported to and from school by the child’s parent or guardian. Please feel free to start picking medications up now when you stop by the school for end of year events (at least the medications your student keeps for an as needed basis). As the school year comes to a close I want to remind you that all medications will need to be picked up by 4:00 pm the last day of school (May 23). Any medications left in the clinic will be discarded and will not remain in the clinic. If you have any questions please call me at 860-4289.
Parents of 5th Graders:
Students need additional immunizations when they enter 6th grade. The Indiana State Dept. of Health's additional required shots are Tdap, MCV4, and two doses of Hep A for all 6th-grade students. Please contact your student's doctor as soon as possible to schedule an appointment before school begins in July 2018. If your student has had these immunizations, please send a copy of the updated shots to the clinic. Even if your student will not be 11 before the beginning of 6th grade, the required shots are due prior to 6th grade. After your student goes to the appointment, please bring a copy of the updated shot record by my clinic so I can add the updated record to your student's medical file which will be forwarded on to the middle school.
MCHD has appointments and walk-in clinic hours, and the cost is $20 regardless of the number of immunizations needed. The closest MCHD office is located at 7551 E Shelby St, and the phone number is 317-221-5700. If you have questions or need a copy of your student's shot record you may call me in the clinic 317-860-4289 to arrange to pick up a copy or have a copy sent home.
Next Year Health Information
As we draw this year to a close, I want to share a reminder for next year for students who have health conditions that require yearly plans.
If your student is diagnosed with asthma, each year an asthma action plan should be completed by the student's doctor and turned into the clinic at the start of the school year. If your student is diagnosed with a seizure disorder, each year a seizure action plan for should be completed by the student's doctor and turned into the clinic at the start of the school year. If your student has a life-threatening food allergy that has been diagnosed by a medical provider, each year your student will complete a food allergy emergency care plan. All of these forms can be found online under the health services tab at the bottom left on ftcsc.org home page. I am alerting you to the asthma action plan, seizure action plan, and food allergy action plan being required yearly so you may have those completed by your child's doctor over summer and be ready for next school year. Kids frequently have yearly checkups in the summer, and most doctor's office will complete these during appointments free of charge, so I would like to save you money and hassle by alerting you to the need now. If you have any questions regarding any form, please phone me in the clinic to discuss (317)860-4289 before school ends or email me at natalie.davis@ftcsc.org . I will be happy to email or send a form home with your student if requested. I am out of the office during our summer break, but I return several days prior to the beginning of school.
