8th grade luau celebration information

Dear 8th Grade Parents,

The end of the school year is quickly approaching and Middle School will soon be behind us. Where has the time gone? Please read below about the upcoming event.

On Friday, June 11, 2021, there will be an 8th-grade celebration at CMS from 5:00-7:00 pm. This year the theme is going to be a LUAU! The dress will be extremely casual and the proper attire will be Bermuda shorts, flip flops, bright flowered shirts, and sundresses. There will be no charge for students to attend the celebration, but we would appreciate donations to help cover the expense of decorations and food. We recognize many of you may be feeling the financial crunch, but we trust that those who can give will do so in hopes to make this a memorable event that our children will cherish. We are asking that all donations be sent in ASAP. Cash or checks made payable to CMS PTO can be sent in an envelope marked “8th Grade Celebration.”

Sincerely,

CMS PTO

june students of the month

The Character Trait for May is Positive Attitude: A state of mind that sees and focuses on the good in life, rather than the negative; a willingness to try new things; the belief that everything will turn out all right. A positive attitude is also an important job skill employers desire. This means being able to see the bright side of a situation, helping to solve problems, taking advantage of opportunities, learning from your mistakes, and then moving on.

Congratulations to the following students who have been named June Students of the Month!

staying connected to your student

Parents often ask how to stay connected to a child’s progress and have some controls with assignments on the internet. At CMS we are committed to helping you accomplish this. We have several ways that you can actually keep an eye on your student’s academics and their digital footprint.

Currently we have three options. Parent Portal, Student Google Login, and Google Classroom Guardian Email Summaries. I have outlined the benefits of each in the table below.

CMS currently would like to suggest that you sign up for Parent Portal and learn how to log in to your child’s Google Account. The Google Classroom Guardian is also a great tool but may be redundant if you log into your child’s account regularly. CMS requests that you log into your child’s account regularly. If students are aware that parents can look at email correspondence, classwork and other activities regularly, it helps them make the better choice in a difficult situation.

As you are aware, District 5 uses a student’s birth date as a password. We choose at CMS not to reset these passwords so that parents can easily access student accounts regularly. The benefit of not having lost instructional time for “forgotten” passwords is invaluable, and when students know that parents and teachers can access their accounts, it helps them stay on task and make good choices.

If you have any questions regarding how to sign up for and of this information, please contact our Digital Integration Specialist, Lori Powers at lpowers@lexrich5.org or 803-722-5573.

Note: For security reasons, you need a Google Account to receive summaries from Classroom. You don’t need a Gmail address—you can create a Google Account with your current email address.
