District Highlights!
The first semester has nearly come and gone for us here at Oneida, but there is plenty of athletics still going on for the Indians. Basketball season is in full swing at both the middle and high school levels and all of the teams are off to solid starts to the year.
At OMS, both the Indians and Lady Indians are currently 7-1 as they entered play on Saturday at the Eagleton Christmas Tournament. For the boys, Drayton Wade has been a force for the Indians, averaging just under 16 points per game. The duo of Kannon Gazay and Canaan Shoemaker are also chipping in just over six points a game for the Indians. For the girls, the scoring has been spread out well as Kendall Duncan leads the way with just under 10 points per contest. Avery Rector (8.7 ppg) and Maddie Pike (6.5 ppg) have also been big contributors for the Lady Indians.
At OHS, the ladies are off to a hot start, currently sitting at 5-2 overall and 1-0 in district play after defeating Coalfield last Friday. Senior Kelsey Pike (17.1 ppg) is off to a great start this year. Braelyn Russ, Raylie Bush, and Elli West are all chipping in nearly six points per contest as well. For the boys, it was a tough start against big competition, but the Indians have begun to settle in, winning three of their last five including a victory over Coalfield last Friday to move to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in district play. The duo of Mason Keeton (17.0 ppg) and Grady Keeton (13.4 ppg) have been dynamic this season. Chip in the post presence of Zeb Spradlin, Hayden Brawner, and Gavin Keeton (combined 17.1 ppg and 17.3 rebounds per game) and the Indians are beginning to hit their stride heading into the holidays.
Although football season in over, there were a number of Indians that earned postseason awards recently. Elijah Phillips was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year in Region 2-2A while Luke Barna was named the Special Teams Player of the Year. All-Region selections included Caden Rector, Levi James, Colten Daugherty, and Landon Limburg.
The OHS Pride of the Tribe Marching Band recently traveled to perform in the 2022 Gatlinburg Festival of Lights Christmas Parade. They also hosted the OHS Night of the Arts concert last week. Included in the Night of the Arts were performances by the OHS Theatre Department, the OHS Choir, the Oneida Elementary 5th Grade Band, the OMS 6th Grade Band, the OMS Advance Band, the OHS Concert Band, and art displayed from the OHS Art Department.

Attendance Policies & Procedures
- Only five (5) days, whether consecutive or not, can be excused by a parent note OR doctor’s note per semester. (Semesters will run August – December and January – May).
- Sign Ins and Sign Outs are considered parent notes. Every day of absence equals one note.
- Notes should include the student's name, date(s) of absence(s), reason for absence, signature of parent, and a phone number where a parent can be reached.
- All parent and doctor notes must be presented to the office the day the student returns to school.
Examples of Excused Absences:
- Personal illness/injury
- Illness of immediate family member
- Death in the family
- Extreme weather conditions
- Religious observances
- Pregnancy
- School endorsed activities
- Summons, subpoena, or court order
- Circumstances which in the judgment of the principal create emergencies over which the student has no control.
Absences that do not meet any of the criteria listed above will be considered unexcused.
