MM #5 -- December 9, 2021
Dear ETE Families,
We've been busily preparing for the upcoming break and taking our midyear assessments. Teachers will send those reports home after the break so we can start setting goals for the New Year and the second semester.
Today was also the first meeting of our 5th Grade Student Ambassadors. This group of ROCKSTAR 5th graders serve as role models for our student body, helping to run our monthly character assemblies, promoting our Golden Dustpan and Golden Plunger Awards, and whatever else they can do to serve as leaders of our school. Congratulations and BIG THANKS to the following students:
Sadie Valenti, Emma Kocher, Daksha Khatri, Ana Ryszkowski, Jassiel Castillo, Liam Shaw, Brady Pellant, Corbin Fabel, and Helton Kintz
Important Dates:
- Dec. 13 -- Holiday Art Walk 4:30-5:15 at ETE

Communication Update -- ETE and PIT Working Together
One of the hot topics in our PIT (Parent Involvement Team) meetings this year has been communication. It seems like we're always working to improve the connections between home and school, especially during this time where parents aren't able to be as involved in the day to day activities on campus. Inspired by the lively conversation in today's meeting, PIT President Erin Pellant put together this helpful sheet of tips for establishing a good rapport with your child(ren)'s teachers.
The Parent Involvement Team meets once a month with the principals from Edith Teter and South Park Middle and High Schools. All parents are welcome to attend. Watch your email and the district website for upcoming meetings!
A Note from SEL Teacher, Mrs. Ventura!
Hi Parents!
In your child’s grade level Social-Emotional lessons, we just finished a unit on managing and understanding emotions. We worked on understanding different emotions, looking for clues to know how a person is feeling, as well as ways to understand what is happening inside our own bodies in order to help regulate strong emotions. Your child even worked on learning and using different strategies to self-regulate. Some examples of self-regulating tools are things like slow breathing, asking for help, reaching out to a trusted adult, and rethinking situations.
The goal of this last unit was to encourage problem-solving, be better learners, and build strong relationships. I encourage families to talk about emotions and coping strategies for strong emotions openly at home. From what the student body shared with me, they LOVE talking about it!
When we begin our new unit after winter break, I will email parents in each grade level the topics and lesson information that we will be working on at that time. Sneak peek: Empathy and Kindness will be coming up! : )
Thank you for your time in reading about our Social-Emotional learning!
Take Care,
Erin Ventura - Social Emotional Learning Teacher
