Welcome Back Students & Parents!
Greetings from Mr. Moore & Staff at Snowshoe - Aug. 2018
Who Are the People in Your Neighborhood?
He's New...
Yup it's Mr. Moore, our new Snowshoe Principal hamming it up on the first day with students!
He's even been spotted on the playground playing tag with the kids already!

Changes to Bus/Pickup
Please do not leave bus or pickup changes on a voicemail in the office or a teacher's classroom phone. We prefer that these important changes be made by you through our school dismissal program starting in approximately 2 weeks.
Changes need to be entered by 3:00 p.m. or communicated by calling the front office. Thank you.
Pick-Ups
When picking up your student, please park and come inside. If they are leaving before school ends at 3:45, sign them out and they will be called down from class.
End of the day pick-ups are released from the gym and then we are asking that you exit out the back of the gym door to keep traffic from becoming congested in the front lobby and it keeps the noise level down. We appreciate your help in this matter.

P.E. at Snowshoe
SNOWSHOE ELEMENTARY PHYSICAL EDUCATION
For your child’s health, comfort and safety in P. E. class, your child will need to meet the following standards:
Sturdy, supportive gym shoes which stay securely on the foot. Shoe laces, when tied, SHOULD stay off the floor. Soles should be non-marking. Slip-on shoes, hiking boots and “elevated chunky” heels for girls’ and flip-flops are UNSAFE for PE.
All students are to keep a separate pair of shoes for P. E. in their classroom on a permanent basis. Each shoe should be labeled with the child’s name.
T-shirts and comfortable pants should be worn. Save dresses for Music/Science or Library days.
**MEDICAL NOTES:
If a child has been ill or injured and requires limited or restricted physical activity, the parent MUST provide a written note from a physician explaining the child’s illness/injury and physical limitations. A description of the child’s condition or injury assists me in adapting the child’s activities for the day so the child can be involved in class within his/her own physical limitations.
The doctor should write the dates for restricted activity.
Parents, please support your child of his/her responsibilities to be properly prepared for their P.E. lessons. Your support is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Cindi Westcott

352-9531Recess is Outside
Outside recess is an important part of your child's day. 3 important reasons are:
1) Children gain the opportunity to practice social skills and role-play with peers at recess.
2) Through play at recess, children learn valuable communication skills, including
negotiation, cooperation, sharing,problem-solving, and coping skills, such as
perseverance and self-control.
3) Recess allows a student time to rest, play, imagine, think, move, and socialize. It can
encourage creativity and problem solving.
The weather is never predictable in Alaska. Layering clothing is an easy way to ensure they stay warm along with a jacket everyday. As we get colder, start adding hats and gloves. And, of course snow means a warmer winter coat along with snow pants. All students spend 30 minutes outside everyday.
