Size


The labrador retriever is a medium size dog breed. They weigh 55 to 80 pounds (25 to 36 kilograms). A lab stands 21.5 to 24.5 inches (55 to 62 centimeters). A lab has shorter legs than other retrievers. It’s tail is thick at the base and thin at the end,like an otter’s.

Body

Labrador retrievers like to be in water. It has a tail like an otter to help it swim. Labs have thick, water proof hair that keeps them warm in cold water. Labs can have black, chocolate, brown or yellow fur.

Life Cycle

Female labs give birth to 5 to 10 puppies. The pups grow very quickly. Labs live to be 10 to 13 years old. A lab needs 3 feedings a day until it gets to be 5 months old.

Care

Labs need fresh food and water every day. The labs owners should exercise their labs daily. These active dogs enjoy running, walking, or playing fetch. Labs love to chase things and chew on things.Make sure your lab has about 5 toys with which it can play with.
