A Message From Dr. Ricks
Parents and Friends,
We have a lot going on as we make our way through October. Next Thursday, report cards will come home. Please feel free to contact your teachers if you have questions about your child's academic performance. Please put grades in context and know when a "B" calls for great praise and when it calls for reassessing priorities. Our focus at GES is to foster the child's love, mastery, and respect for learning; the letter grade is only one measure of how well we are meeting that objective. Overall, I am extremely pleased with the efforts and accomplishments of our students.
Evergreens sales are going strong. We have several more days to get our orders in. Please sell, sell, sell. This is the major PTF fundraiser, and all money generated through Evergreens sales is put back into the budget for the benefit of our students. IPads, Neo 2's, curriculum support, and PE and playground equipment are just a few of the items purchased from past Evergreen sales.
Heidi Stoor and her team have been working hard on Fall Festival, and the students are so excited...it is definitely the buzz around campus. We have games, food, prizes, face painting, and all kinds of other fun. It is just one of great events that is coming up where I look forward to visiting with you and your family!
Warmly,
Dr. Beth J. Ricks

THIS WEEK IN GATOR ATHLETICS
FOOTBALL
The Grace football teams wrapped up their seasons last week.
5/6 grade played in the annual Swamp Bowl held in Vicksburg. They defeated Tensas 13-0 but then were eliminated by Briarfield and ended their season. Their final record was 4-3 and we saw huge improvements in execution AND attitude from all the players. So proud of their efforts, and we are ready to see what next year brings. Thanks young men.
NEXT GAME: End of Season
7/8 St Freds football wrapped up their seasons as well. Both 7th and 8th fell to Calhoun middle last week. Overall, it was a great season and we are looking forward to seeing these athletes on the basketball court and soccer field.
NEXT GAME: End of Season
CROSS COUNTRY
Another great showing from the GES runners last Saturday at the West Ridge meet.
Top finishers were Taylor Smiley (4th), Rosemary Nolan (4th) and Elliott White (6th). All the runners had a better time than the week before, and we are so proud of all of them for representing GES.
NEXT MEET: Saturday Oct 17th at Good Hope MS
BASKETBALL
The first basketball games start up next week. The fee is $40 and will need to be paid in order to get your uniform. We have a 7/8 grade girls team, 7th boys team, and 8th boys team. The 6th grade will play their games in January. Shane Smiley will head up the 7/8 girls with James Lewis as asst coach and James will coach the boys' teams. Please consider helping to volunteer at the concession stands during these games.
NEXT GAME: Tuesday @ UPJH 5PM 7th boys first 7/8girls, 8boys
SOCCER
GES soccer will have their first games next week as well. The soccer fee is $40 and due ASAP. Fee must be submitted before a uniform is issued. We had a record number of kids sign up for soccer, and we anticipate a lot of playing time for all. The girls were undefeated last year, and we expect great things again from both teams.
NEXT GAME: Wednesday @ St Freds Girls 5:30PM, Boys 6:45PM
BOOSTER CLUB NEWS
The GES Booster club still is asking you to consider helping with our main fundraiser, the ULM concession stands. This is our biggest money maker and an easy way to donate your time and support our school. Anybody age 15 and up can help...Alumni, HS students, older siblings, aunts, uncles. Thanks so much for all that you do.
