La Mesa Update

September 5, 2021

Hello La Mesa Families,

This week we have no school on Monday in honor of Labor Day. Also, you will be able to access your child's quarter 1 progress report on the following Monday, September 13th by logging into the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. We encourage you to check the portal often to see where your child is academically.

IMPORTANT! Please Read.

La Mesa receives a significant amount of federal money under Title 1. This funding is based on the number of students that qualify for free and reduced lunch in the federal lunch program. Because lunch is free for all this year, less people have filled out the application. This can put this extra funding for our school at risk.

Some of the things we fund:

An additional counselor

Professional development to increase reading and math skills

School supplies and classroom supplies

Programs and apps to make learning more engaging

Supports such as the 5Star Student App to recognize students

and much more...

Please go to this link and fill out the online form. We cannot stress enough how important this is.

Make-up Picture Days - THIS Friday

If your child did not attend our Summer Check-in, there are two opportunities for them to get their school pictures. These are also the photos that will go into our Yearbook.

On Friday, September 10th before school, brunch, lunch, and after school.

Back to School NIght - Virtual

Back to School Night will again be held as a virtual event District-wide. Videos will be made available to families on Wednesday, September 9th and can be viewed at your convenience. While we are disappointed to not see our families in person, we also want to do our part to limit large gatherings. We can all agree that keeping schools open is our priority, second only to the safety and health of our students and staff.

Personal Device Policy Reminder

Our personal device policy s in effect. Please review it ENGLISH HERE., SPANISH HERE.

We can't even begin to tell you how wonderful it is to see students interacting at brunch and lunch rather than having their heads in a phone. Students are more focused in class without have to be distracted with a buzzing phone in their pockets.

We also understand that there are times when you need to connect with your child. They can come to the office to use the phone or ask a teacher to use the classroom phone. If you need to reach your child, please call the school and we will get a message out to them for you.

Your support is appreciated. Since implementing this policy, our negative issues associated with phones, including bullying and conflicts, have decreased dramatically.

Check our for some interesting research on students and phone use.

Parent Advisory Council Meeting (PAC)
