WELCOME FROM DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS, ROBERT FOREMAN
What a GREAT fall sports season for our Athletic Programs!
The Lady Bronco Softball Team finished their season with a (26-8) record and advanced to the state semi-finals. Volleyball, under first year Coach Blake Newman, finished the season (19-19). Girls Cross Country qualified for the State Cross Country Meet for the 26th consecutive year and our Boys Cross Country Team earned a 5th place finish at the state meet . Football holds a 7-4 record and heads to the State Semifinals this Friday. Cheer has already made two trips to state (Competition Cheer and Game Day Cheer) and Pom collected a 1st place Hip Hop finish at the TSF Dance Competition.
Our Winter Sports look to continue this success as they begin their seasons. Swimming, Boys Wrestling, Girls Wrestling, Boys Basketball and Girls Basketball all have high expectations entering their seasons.
As always, we hope you continue to support our student-athletes as they represent Mustang in a first-class manner in all of their endeavors.

2021-2022 BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM
BOYS BASKETBALL PREVIEW
We are very excited about this year's boys basketball team. They have numerous players with varsity experience returning and are expecting a big year from the team. The team is led by 11 seniors who have been great at leading by example. They have influenced and helped build the culture the coaching staff is trying to build here in the boys basketball program. The team has a difficult conference schedule and play in 3 really good tournaments (Bishop Kelley, Mustang, and Shawnee). Scott Hodges said "We are ready to compete this year with great attitudes and effort. Our expectations are as high as they have ever been since we've been here at Mustang, and we are ready to see what this special group of guys can accomplish."
2021-2022 GIRLS VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM
GIRLS BASKETBALL PREVIEW
We have high expectations for this season. We reached the state quarterfinals last year and are definitely on the right track to achieving that again, and this time going even further. Our girls set their team goal to win a gold ball this year, and we have that ability if we continue to work and progress throughout the season.
We have 6 seniors this year, 3 of which are returning starters. We expect a lot from the seniors this year as we hope that their experience will lead our team further than our quarterfinal appearance last year. We do have a lot of youth at the varsity level and expect a number of sophomores and even a freshman to contribute important minutes on our varsity squad. The younger girls will have to learn and grow quickly and we expect to see a lot of improvement throughout the season as they gain experience and confidence in game situations. We expect our veterans to lead this team in all aspects and help prepare their younger teammates for the higher level of competition they will face.
Here are a few things to know about this year's team/players:
Karley Johnson is signing with University of Arkansas
Talia Pogi is signing with Southwestern Oklahoma State University
Our team theme this year is "Be a Piece"-meaning everyone is an important piece of the team and in order for us to be complete and be whole we need everyone to be their own piece and bring their strengths to the team
We have enjoyed a lot of team bonding activities throughout the fall semester including: attending Mustang softball and volleyball games together, volunteering at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, and participating in a team-building activities day all together
2021-2022 BOYS AND GIRLS SWIM TEAMS
The goals this year for swimming are the same as every year. We want to qualify all 6 relay teams for the state swim meet and have boys and girls individual events represented as well. The girls team has several returning swimmers that qualified for state last year; including Jacee Jimeson, Brenda Nguyen and Courtney Riley. The boys team should be strong this year with several returning state qualifiers; including Cameron Bryant, Gavin Davis, Donald Nguyen, Bryson Tate, Josh Torres, AJ Walswick and Brody White. The team has been practicing since the start of school at the Mustang Community centers outside pool until the weather forces them to make the drive to Earlywine pool in Moore everyday. The season kicks off on Nov 9th with a meet in Ponca City. The conference meet will be on Jan 22nd in Edmond and the state meet is Feb 18th and 19th.
BOYS WRESTLING PREVIEW
The 2021 6A Dual-State Champion Mustang Broncos look to reload heading into the 2021-2022 season. After graduating a very talented group of wrestlers, the Broncos bring back a VERY impressive core group. The Broncos are led by Senior John Wiley, who has signed to wrestle next year for the University of Oklahoma. Wiley is a 2-time State Champion, and 3 time finalist. He is currently ranked 9th in the country at his weight division.
Other returning State qualifiers from last year include Shelton Chastain (Sr.), Bam West (Sr.), Jacen Jackson (Jr.), and Christian Rowland (Sr.). Rowland returns as a defending State Champion at Heavyweight, and is ranked 14th nationally.
Other wrestlers that look to play key roles in this season are Javin Douglas (So.), Kylar Kurtz (Jr.), Jacob Gearhart (Sr.), and Claude Moates (Sr.). This should be a very exciting season as the Broncos chase another State Championship.
GIRLS WRESTLING PREVIEW
History has been made stepping into the 2021-2022 Girl’s wrestling season. This year’s team is officially the first ever girl’s wrestling team in the history of Mustang High School. There have been female wrestlers in the past, but this is just the beginning of having a team specifically for females.
Returning from last year, Junior Mia Cayard has extremely high expectations. She was state runner-up in 2021 in her weight class, is currently ranked #13 in the country, is a 2-time Fargo Qualifier, a 6-time All-American, and also competes for the Oklahoma National Team. Mia’s goal this season is a state-championship.
Other wrestlers to keep an eye on are Sophomore Cheyenne Reyman and Freshman Natalie Parada. Both have already received medals at pre-season tournaments and are showing signs of being incredibly strong wrestlers as the season progresses.
STUDENT ATHLETIC TRAINERS
Under the direct supervision of a licensed/certified athletic trainer, this unique experience exposes students to the foundations of the profession of athletic training and their interactions with various healthcare providers. This creates interest and increases the visibility of our skill set. Mustang's Athletic Training Student Aides help with the hydration, treatment, and rehabilitation of over 800 athletes.
