What Makes LSC Different?

LSC aims to create transformational opportunities for scholars across Sumter (SC) through a rigorous "whole scholar" approach. Our personalized learning academies will position us as a leader for educational equity in the country, and, in time, will harness their collective impact to meet the needs of thousands of historically underserved students in Sumter. Our model is innovative and unlike any other locally available. Key distinguishing features include a high-quality standards-based curriculum (Eureka & EL), longer school day & year, significant exposure to enrichment activities, two teachers in all classrooms with smaller classroom sizes, a comprehensive MTSS model to ensure the needs of all scholars are being met, extended day activities, and an innovative high school model with a set of learning PATHWAYS designed to link project-based learning and student connections to STEAM career pathways.

Meet one of our Founding Parents

Shereza Middleton & Ava Middleton – 6-Year-Old Founding Kindergarten Scholar

  1. What attracted you to LSC? My initial attraction was the freedom of choosing a public (in-person) school here in Sumter for my child to attend. Followed by the flexibility in curriculum, teaching models, classroom structure, and overall school culture.
  2. Why do you believe LSC is the best fit for your child(ren)? Ava has always had a passion for learning. I believe LSC can assist Ava to continue developing effective learning habits, skills, and the mindset that will build her social, emotional, and academic competence.
  3. What has your child(ren) enjoyed the most since attending LSC? Ava enjoys the unique personalized relationships with teachers and staff and learning Spanish phrases and vocabulary.
  4. What are you looking forward to the most about your child(ren) attending LSC? I look forward to building supportive relationships with staff and teachers that promote equity and transparency. It is important for Ava to continue acquiring skills in independence, problem-solving, and self-advocacy.
  5. What would you share with those looking to become involved with LSC by donating time or resources? Patience. First, Communicate your ideas and concerns. Then assess as a team on how your time or resources can be best effective to support LSC vision. At LSC, we understand the importance of building positive networks and how this impacts our children's education.
