October 2018

Notes from the Principal

It has been a wonderful start to the school year. Our students have done a great job with our new behavior expectations. They have also completed our beginning of the year assessments so we can see where each student needs to go this school year. We are looking forward to seeing how much our students grow. If you are interested in where your student currently falls with BOY assessment please contact your classroom teacher. October will bring us Drug and Bully Free Week and those dress up days can be found below. Mrs. Holli is currently providing character lessons for students on responsibility. Ask your student what they have learned about responsibility in character lessons! We will have our Wampus Cat Night Out (Open House) at WT Crouch Park October 18. We hope to see you there!

Our classes start phonics or classroom lessons promptly at 7:55 and it is important that students not miss instruction.

Staff Spotlight

This month we are spotlighting our Pre K staff. In Pre k this school year our teacher is Christal Dominguez. She has been working with Itasca ISD for 4 years. Mrs. Christal wants our community to know "I really love working with this age. They are so much fun and I look forward to getting to see these kids learn new things. I enjoy working at Itasca. We have a great staff and a great group of kids!!" Working alongside her are our paraprofessionals, Ashley Daniels and Rochelle Grisham.

ATTENDANCE REMINDERS

Please take note that there are a few changes this year to our attendance policy and how/why students would need to make up attendance hours. Every student must attend 93% of the days class is in session to receive credit. Once a student misses more than 93% they must complete attendance makeup to receive credit. Attendance make up is $5 per hour and completed during Night School (Tuesday/Thursday)(3:35-7:30pm) or Saturday school (8-3:30pm).

** Changes ** A student will be required to make up hours even with a doctor's note if they do not attend school on the day of the note. For an absence to count as a medical excuse and not count in the 93% rule, your student MUST attend school during the day either before or after their appointment. If they do not attend school it will count against their 93% rule and be subject to attendance makeup, even with a doctors excuse.

Please do not hesitate to call the school office (254-687-2922 ext 120) with any questions regarding this change.

NOTE: AFTERNOON ATTENDANCE DOES COUNT TOWARD MAKE UP HOURS
