North Scituate Elementary School
June Newsletter 2020
A note from Mrs. Soccio
I want to thank each and every family for your support and commitment to learning during this unprecedented time. While the year started off like any other, it ended in a challenging way. The North Scituate Faculty & Staff thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigated through distance learning. Everyone has worked very hard to ensure each student is successful in his or her learning. Our efforts to engage students through car parades, bitmojis, yard signs, Spirit Days, and more have been met with great appreciation from families.
Mr. Ceprano has organized a virtual field day on Monday, June 8th. There will be no classroom assignments. Please look for an email with specifics for this fun day.
Student material/belongings pick up will take place on Monday, June 15th from 12-3 pm. This pick up will be organized much like the first one with the addition of required face covering and recording who enters the building. Only one adult is to enter the building for materials. More details will be sent out in the next week or so. Teachers will be lined up by the lower parking lot to wave to students as they drive by to get materials and leave. You will receive an email with more specifics.
Reminder: Report cards will be emailed to families on the last day of school (6/15). It will be emailed to the primary email address on our Alert Notification System.
Our Summer Reading Challenge will be in your End-of-Year Pick Up Bag to complete over the summer. Mrs. Gould's newsletter has links to digital copies. Email Mrs. Soccio or Mrs. Gould with questions or difficulties. I can't wait to hear about all the books you read and the places you read them!
Our school office will be closed during the month of July. If you need immediate assistance during this time, please e-mail me at kaitlin.soccio@scituateschoolsri.net or call the school department office at (401)647-4100. We will re-open in August.
A reminder that our last day of school is Monday, June 15th.
Do not hesitate to reach out over the summer with questions or concerns.
Have a relaxing and fun summer!
Warm Regards,
Kaitlin M. Soccio, Principal

A Note from the School Nurse
Dear Parents,
Happy June Everyone! I hope you and your families are well! As this unprecedented school year comes to a close, I wanted to remind you about a few health related, end of year procedures and required paperwork for the beginning of school in the fall.
If your child has had medication in school this year, I will call to remind you that the medication will be packed up and ready for pick up with your child's other personal belongings on June 15th.
A yellow dental card will be sent home with your child’s personal belongings. Please save the card and bring it to your child’s next dental appointment and then return the card to school before next February.
If your child has a physical exam during the summer, or any other time of the year, please send a copy into school, so that your child’s medical record can be updated with the new information.
Each school year, a new order from your child’s health care provider is required in order for prescription and non-prescription medication to be dispensed by the school nurse/teacher.
If your child has asthma, and takes medication, here is a link to an Asthma Action Plan, https://health.ri.gov/publications/actionplans/Asthma.pdf . This should be taken to your child’s pediatrician or Asthma and Allergy physician and completed before school starts in the fall, so their asthma may be appropriately treated while at school.
Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns about any health related issues that may impact your child in school this coming fall. I will always be available by email, colleen.mccann@scituateschoolsri.net
Mark your calendars for our Annual Flu Vaccine Clinic, which will be held at North
Scituate School cafeteria on Monday, October 5, 2020, from 4:00 PM - 6:30 PM. Vaccines are available for students and their family members over the age of 3 years.
With COVID-19 still very much an ongoing health issue, I wanted to share with you again, the American Academy of Pediatrics parent website, www.healthychildren.org which has some wonderful informational articles regarding COVID-19, such as Parenting During a Pandemic and Masks for Kids, you might find helpful and informative. HealthyChildren.org - From the American Academy of Pediatrics
It is that time of year when ticks are everywhere. Here is a link to the RI Department of Health informational page on prevention of Tick-borne Illness. https://health.ri.gov/disease/carriers/ticks/
June is National Safety Month, so be careful out there and have a wonderful safe, happy and healthy summer vacation! Here is an article about water safety, to make sure you and your family will be safe at the beach and pool this summer.
Warmest Wishes for a Wonderful Summer!
