Famous tourist destinations in the North
1. Mai Chau – Hoa Binh
About 130 kilometers from Hanoi, Mai Chau is located at an altitude from 200 to 1,500 meters about the sea level; therefore the weather here is cool all year around. Mai Chau is home to Thai ethnic people. Traveling here, tourists often visit Lac village – a famous and typical village for land and people of Mai Chau. In tourist season, Lac village is bustling and crowded. Specialties in Mai Chau are plentiful but more famous are Xoi Nep (a sweet Vietnamese dish made from glutinous rice) and honey.
2. Thung Nai – Hoa Binh
Thung Nai is a commune in Cao Phong district, Hoa Binh. Located about 25 kilometers from Hoa Binh town and 110 kilometers from Hanoi. The name of Thung Nai originated from a valley of flocks of deer. This place has river, mountain, cave and stream.
Thung Nai is famous for Ba Chua temple, Thac Bo cave, Bo cave, Mu village…This is home to various ethnic minorities, mainly Muong. The most popular transport here is boats.
Thung Nai is suitable for those want to find a quiet place with family and friends.
3. Ba Be lake, Bac Kan
Ba Be lake is located in Nam Mau commune, Ba Be district, Bac Kan province, 220 kilometers from Hanoi. Locals call Ba Be as Slam Pé – means three lakes. Ba Be lake covers an area of 500 hectares, with an average depth of up to 17 – 23 meters. Known as one of world’s top 20 largest freshwater lakes, in 2004 Ba Be lake was recognized as ASEAN heritage park.
Situated in a vast limestone area, Ba Be has an unspoiled and charming beauty with cool and fresh air.
Tourist attractions in Ba Be include boat tour to explore the lake, Puong cave, Dau Dang waterfall, Fairy pond, Nam Cuong fairy market…
4. Trang An, Ninh Binh
Belongs to districts of Hoa Lu, Gia Vien, and Ninh Binh city, about 90 kilometers from Hanoi to the South; Trang An has an area of thousands hectares with limestone mountain ranges surrounding, creating lakes, valleys connecting with each other.
The journey to explore caves in Trang An eco-tourism site is a loop, starting and ending at Ang Muong port. Tourists will pass through 12 cave connecting together by valley of water and three historical and spiritual sites. Time for this trip often lasts 3 hours.
