Winship News
November 2018
A note from the desk of Mr. Thorvilson ...
Dear Families,
Thank you for your wonderful support of the Winship PTO. The fall fundraiser was a huge success and your contributions made a big difference. Thank you for the wonderful turn out at Turkey Bingo. EVERY child walked out of our school with at least one raffle prize and big smiles! Thank you to our wonderful families for supporting our school, our teachers and our students!
Our next RED Event is on Friday, November 30th. We hope you can attend! Our students are reading more than ever before! We have a very high number of students reading ELBA books from our school library. If you want to see something really cool, check out the display in our library windows celebrating all of our ELBA readers! If you want more information, please don't hesitate to ask our classroom teachers, our librarian or our school office! We are happy to help.
Finally, thanks for bundling up your child! We brave the weather most days to go out for recess and really need our children to be dressed appropriately and safely.
Thank you for your continued support!
Travis Thorvilson

Hearing Screenings
The speech-language pathologist, in conjunction with the district audiologist, will be conducting a hearing screening on Thursday, November 15th. All kindergarten students will be screened as well as those students who have previously failed a screen or have a known hearing loss. If you are not sure if your child falls into one of these groups, or you have concerns about their hearing, please contact the speech-language pathologist (Tammy Dalin) or your child's teacher. Following the screen, letters will be sent home for those students who require a medical or clinical referral.
Gearing Up For Kindergarten
Gearing Up for Kindergarten is a parent and family education program supporting child development, school readiness and healthy parenting. Gearing Up for Kindergarten combines preschool learning activities for children as well as educational opportunities for parents.
See the below attachment for more information and registration form.
Parents Lead
An advantage to getting to know the parents of your child's friends is that you will know the kind of people that are influencing your child. Also, by getting to know the parents, you can verify your child's statements when he or she says, "All my friends get to do it." Most importantly, connecting with the families of your child's friend will help form a safety net for your child because you can help supervise each other's children and look out for their safety. It is common in small towns for everyone to know everyone even through generations! Here are several ways you meet other families: set play-dates, arrange to share driving with other parents for after-school activities, volunteer at your child's school, join PTO, attend faith-based activities, attend sporting events or other social gatherings, etc.
Winship Mission Statement
