Message from the Principal

Black Bear Families,

We have two events coming up at our school that I’m really excited about. First, we have the return of our Fall Harvest Dance, sponsored by our fantastic PTA, tonight from 5:30-7:30. Costumes are allowed at this event, as long as they are age appropriate (and not too scary for our littlest ones!). If your costume has a weapon or full mask, please leave it at home. I hope to see you there!

Next week is the return of our Fun Run, which will be held on Friday, November 4th. Leading up to the Fun Run, we are having our first School Spirit week of the year. Our theme days are:

  • Monday - Hat Day

  • Tuesday - Stuffy and PJ Day

  • Wednesday - Wacky Wednesday - Mismatched clothes or clothes inside out

  • Thursday - Dress Alike Day

  • Friday - School Spirit/Favorite Team day

A big thanks to our PTA for bringing back these events. Our students love them and they bring our community together which benefits everyone.

Finally, just a reminder that we do not allow costumes during the school day on Halloween. This is a long standing practice in our building. Our classrooms will be having Fall Harvest parties in their rooms, but please leave the costumes at home that day. Thank you for your help in remembering this.

Working with you for our kids,

Jim

Feedback Needed

We are asking for your help in filling out our Parent Event Feedback Form. We would like to know how you felt about our two school events to date, Open House/BBQ on August 31st and our Back to School Night on September 29th. This will help us plan for these events next year!

Fall Weather is Here!

Rainy Fall weather has finally arrived! Be sure that your student is dressed for the weather--recess is outside, rain or shine! Warm shoes, jackets, and hats/gloves are always appropriate cold-weather gear! If your student does not have cold-weather clothing, please contact Ana Uriostegui, our family partnership advocate, for assistance. (503-431-4767)

Also, please take the time to subscribe to Flash Alert, the system that is used to send text messages when there is a school closure or delay. This is especially important to do before Winter weather sets in!

Special Parking Note

We have designated disability parking spaces in our front and back parking lots. Lately, vehicles with no visible disability parking permit are using those spaces during afternoon pickup. One of our families has been unable to access these spots because of this. We ask that you leave those spots open all day for our families who need them. It is unlawful for anyone to park in a disability parking spot without a conspicuously placed parking permit. Thanks for modeling respectful behavior to our students.

Crosswalk Safety

Now that the weather is changing and we are seeing fog in the morning, it's more important than ever to be watchful of students walking to school. We've had some close calls in our crosswalks--both with students and our staff helpers. We ask that you come to a complete stop at the crosswalks and wait until the individuals crossing are safely and completely through the crosswalk before continuing your drive.

Parents, crosswalk staff arrive at the crosswalk at 7:45. Please consider waiting until they are in position before crossing, if possible.

Thank you for recommitting yourself to student safety and following all safety laws in the school zone.

Volunteering at Tualatin Elementary
