Message from the Principal

Hello Prairie Families,

This week our intramural volleyball games wrapped up. The championship games took place on Thursday. Students had a great time throughout the intramural volleyball season and demonstrated great sportsmanship! Again, thank you to Mr. Booth for providing our learners with this awesome opportunity!

We began tracking the number of positive phrases that we hear at recess to work toward our school-wide goal of 400. Our learners are doing an AMAZING job! They surpassed our goal for the month in only two days! It looks like we will need to bump our goals up quite a bit in the future! We heard 296 positive phrases on Monday, 231 positive phrases on Tuesday, 203 positive phrases on Wednesday and 233 positive phrases on Friday! Learners in all recesses are working so hard to build one another up by using positive language. Keep up the great work!

Our student council is doing an excellent job of planning and facilitating the Soup-er Bowl! Our learners are eager to make a difference in the lives of others. See the Soup-er Bowl section below for more information.

Have a great weekend! Enjoy the extra day with your families!

PTA News

It's hard to believe the month of January is half over! Hope everyone is staying warm on these cold days!

As we stated previously, we are in the beginning stages of planning Puma Palooza, our biggest fundraiser of the year. We are really hoping to make it a bang to add funds for our playground project! We would love to see new faces and minds come together to help plan the event. We are planning to meet before the PTA Meetings from 5:30-6:30. We are also looking to get a meeting together before the next meeting. Feel free to join us! We would love to get new donations, funds to help support activities or even businesses supporting activities. If you have a company who would like to be at the event, donate to the event or have ideas, you can email us as well at ptaprairie@gmail.com.

Yearbook order forms

Yearbook order forms are going home with students today. Yearbooks were not ordered with picture packages in the fall.

There is an option to order online at www.inter-state.com/yearbook with order code 46811T. Paper and online orders are due by February 19, 2020.

Attendance

As we approach mid year, many parents are receiving attendance letters from our office. These letters are generated automatically through Infinite Campus when your child hits either 10 days of tardiness or 5 days absent (any or all of a day), and are intended to keep you informed of your child's attendance. Upon exceeding 10 days of absences (any or all of a day), you may be required to submit a doctor's note for any future absences to avoid the absence being marked as truant. In that case, you would again be informed in writing.

We encourage you to get a doctor's note for any medical or dental appointment your child may have requiring any absence from school. A "medically excused" absence does not count in the total number of days absent. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the office.

Step it Up

tep It Up for Heart

Prairie students are stepping up as usual and are doing a fantastic job raising funds to help others with sick hearts. Our fundraising efforts will be coming to a close soon but it is not too late. If you would like to help in our efforts please go to: www.stepitupkids.com/Prairie53189 to get started.

A reminder that this year a portion of the funds we raise from Step It Up for Heart will be divided between the American Heart Association and the new playground being planned for Prairie.

If you have collected any cash or checks, please have your child bring that in by next Friday, January 31st and give it to their teacher.

Thank you again for all of your help.

Artists of the Month

Congratulations to January's artists of the Month!

This month, we have 1st grader Landon Harris and Kindergartener Lucy Bayless. Neither of these kids have been at Prairie very long, but they both are excellent behavior role models, show kindness towards their classmates, and demonstrate the Puma Way every day. In addition, Landon and Lucy are super creative and hard-working young artists.

Congratulations!

More Art Room Recognition

Please recognize the following young ladies for their hard work and dedication. 5th grade students Brooke Taylor, Chloe Glover, Ella Tuyls, Joselin Flores and Sydney Mirkowski had been working on Art sculptures, outside of class time. These ladies have come in during recess, after school, and even over Christmas break, to design and create their sculptures. These sculptures were on display on Monday, January 20th, at the SDW's One Conference. All teachers and administrators in the district were able to see the beautiful work of these dedicated students. Thank you all, for sharing your talent, and thank you to Mrs. Anderson for assisting them.
