What is Binge Eating Disorder?

Binge Eating Disorder is eating large quantities of food in a short period of time. Binge eating occurs, on average, at least once a week for three weeks. Many people binge eat for many reasons, usually it is to get rid of stress or emotions.

Signs and Symptoms

There are different signs and symptoms that show that you can have Binge Eating Disorder.

Physical Symptoms: Obesity, which can lead to: joint problems heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and some sleep-related breathing disorders, etc.

Emotional Symptoms: Feeling depressed, disgusted, ashamed, guilty, or upset about your eating.

Social Symptoms: Problems with functioning in social situations and social isolation.

Behavioral Symptoms: Feeling negatively about yourself, and your skills and accomplishments.

Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey had a binge eating disorder. She used food to fight emotional distress. She eventually got over it by acknowledging her feelings towards food. When she did this she was able to move to a healthy lifestyle.
