A Message from the Superintendent
Our Career Technical Education (CTE) Showcase is this coming Thursday, November 3, at Norte Vista High School. The event is held annually to introduce our 8th grade students to the variety of college and career readiness programs available at our three comprehensive high schools. Over the course of the day, all four middle school's 8th grade students will be bussed over to NVHS for the event.
I am excited about Thursday's showcase and our college and career readiness programs. Given the demand of today's labor market for workers with additional education beyond high school, though not necessarily a college degree, I am proud of our programs that prepare students to transition to some level of postsecondary education or advanced training as well as find gainful employment upon graduation. With so many companies investing in their employees by providing internal training and development programs, most industries seek employees with the ability to learn new skills and the desire to grow and improve with the organization.
Our college and career readiness programs include pathway programs at all of our high schools, including California Partnerships Academies (CPA) at La Sierra High School and Norte Vista High School. CPA's are career-focused and are designed to blend academic rigor, a curriculum spanning college readiness and workplace knowledge, and engaging and relevant experience in the workplace.
La Sierra High School's Health Careers Academy is recognized as a California Distinguished Partnership Academy in the Health and Technology industry sector. Kaiser Permanente Riverside Medical Center is our business partner and provides mentoring and internships. La Sierra High School is also the home of the International Business Academy, a CPA in the Finance and Business sector. At Norte Vista High School, the Green Construction Academy is a CPA in the Building Trades and Construction sector.
Other college and career programs students will learn about at the CTE Showcase include automotive, agriculture mechanics, film production, cabinetry, and nutritional science at Norte Vista. Game design and integration, film production, business/marketing, and computer science at Hillcrest. And at La Sierra, in addition to the International Business Academy and Health Careers CPA programs, students will learn about their Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation academy, with its focus on culinary arts.
A Snapshot of Some of Last Week's Events
Many of our schools held Harvest Festivals or events for Red Ribbon Week or Halloween this past week. Thank you to our staff and to the many parent volunteers who led or supported the events. It was fun observing students having a great time.
Plan Ahead to Attend Dia De Los Muertos at LSHS
School safety continues to be a focus of schools, law enforcement agencies, and legislators in the wake of another school shooting this past week. Since our Safety Threat Assessments were completed last month, we are strategically addressing the assessment results to further secure our campuses. We have also added additional staff on many campuses to strengthen supervision.

In Closing....
On behalf of the Board of Education, thank you for participating in the variety of events held in our schools this past week. Whether it was a school-wide or grade level parent meeting, a sports or performing arts event, or a harvest festival or trunk or treat event, it's great for kids when so many families are engaging with each other and with our schools. We are stronger together. #AlvordStrong.
We strive to be a centerpiece of our communities and a source of pride for the entire community, not just those with children in our schools. Investing in our schools is an investment in the future of our community. We're all in.
In partnership,
Allan Mucerino
