Kindergarten Testing

WHES is committed to providing an exceptional education for every child. We want to ensure classrooms are well balanced and students have a strong start to the school year. For this reason, teachers take the time to assess each learner's strengths and needs prior to the first day of school. Incoming kindergarten students need to attend a 1-hour assessment with kindergarten teachers on July 24th or 25th. Please sign your child up for a testing slot that works best for you.

First Day of School for Kindergarten - Staggered Start

Our kindergarten students will have a staggered start this year by attending one of two half-day sessions. The purpose is to help orient them to elementary school through a smaller group setting and allow parents to get acquainted with our kindergarten programming.

Kindergarten First Day of School:

  • Last name begins with A-M - July 31st (AM only). Stay home on August 1st.
  • Last name begins with N-Z - August 1st (AM only). Stay home on July 31st.

More details about this first day will be sent out to kindergarten parents later this summer. All kindergarteners will start their regular school schedule (8:30-3:40) on August 2nd.

BASE49 - Before and After School Care

BASE49 provides quality care on scheduled school days, as well as during early release and assessment and professional development days for working families. The program provides daily hands-on science and art experiences, homework help, and movement activities (soccer, jump rope, basketball). Base49 has a theme-based week comprised of choices that engage diverse age groups.

Families rely on BASE49 to provide a warm, safe, fun and quality before and after school program for their children, kindergarten to fifth grade (generally ages 5-12). The program offers before and after school care from 6am to 6pm in all of the District 49 coordinated elementary schools.

We are looking forward to your child starting kindergarten with us in the fall. Please continue to check our website for more back-to-school information coming out shortly and look for beginning of the year details to be sent via email as well.
