State Testing

Oregon's Statewide Assessments in science, mathematics, and English language arts will begin in April for students in grades 3-8. Scheduled testing will take place during the school day. For additional information on the State Assessments from the Oregon Department of Education, please review the following link.

While no single test can give a complete picture of your child’s progress, statewide tests provide information to students and families, as well as to educators and administrators about what educational approaches are working and where additional resources are needed. Your child’s participation is important to ensure schools and districts receive the targeted resources they need to help all students succeed. Districts are rated on their participation levels as well as student performance on this exam.

Oregon law (ORS 329.479) permits parents and adult students to annually opt-out of Oregon’s statewide summative tests in English Language Arts and Math by submitting a form to the school the student attends. If you decide to opt your child out of the math and/or ELA state assessments, please submit the following form to your child’s teacher or the front office by April 7, 2023 to best support our school with planning.

Math Night

Mrs. Mitchell, Kaden and Natalie recorded a short video to tell you a bit about Math Night at Hawks View. We hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Thank you SO much to the families who have made door signs, donated snacks and donated to the PAC PayPal so that we can make this a memorable week for our staff. Please see the documents below for fun ideas to make the week great for your students' teacher and other support staff.

Volunteers are needed for assistance with health screenings for HV students. Feb 7 from 8:15-11am to help with vision screening and Feb 17 from 8:30-10:45am to help with dental screening. Please contact volunteers@hawksviewpac.org for more information regarding these volunteer opportunities. Thank you for your willingness to serve!

Job Openings

Looking to make a little extra cash while the kids are at school? We currently have two Nutrition Services positions open - both 4.25 hours per day during school days. One position is at Hawks View Elementary and the other is at Sherwood High School. These positions are perfect for those with kids in school. Your day will begin after school starts, and end before school dismisses.

If you are interested, please visit our District website and click on the tab “Jobs”. We would love to have you join our District family!

Free Vision Screening for All Students

We will be giving a free vision screening to all students at Hawks View on Tuesday, February 7. The testing will be done by the Lions Club with volunteers using the SPOT screening devices. The test is painless, is done from a distance, and does not touch your child’s eyes or face.

Results will come to us in about a week. Most children pass the exam, and due to the volume of paperwork, we will only send home results for students who do not pass the exam (results sent via backpack mail). If you want a copy of “passing” results, please contact our office to request. Screening results for all students will also go in their school file.

If you do not want your child to participate in this free vision screening (ie, if you want to opt-out your child) please contact the school office. If you have any questions about the vision screening, please call Health Services at 503-825-5093.

Financial assistance may be available if you need an eye exam and/or glasses for your child.
