Why Cant Homosexual Have The Same Rights As Heteorsexuals
If homosexuals have the same legal marriage privileges as heterosexuals then will the homosexual issue be resolved?
If the Federal government amended its ruling to extend civil unions or domestic partnerships the same benefits as married partners then the homosexual dispute would be resolved. Homosexual partnerships would be officially recognized and the benefits of such union would rid the argument all together.
"I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. I am not in favor of gay marriage. But when you start playing around with constitutions, just to prohibit somebody who cares about another person, it just seems to me that's not what America's about. Usually, our constitutions expand liberties, they don't contract them." (Barack Obama, 2008)
In addition to, homosexuals would not feel as if their moral or religious beliefs were being violated as homosexual unions would be recognized as such and not by the traditional marriage title. Both parties would benefit and the debate could be over.
Why Change Now?
Change Will Occur One Way Or The Other: Everyone can win
8/10 adults favor gay marriage. As a matter of fact, 55% of the population now favors gay marriage according to a 2014 Gallup Pole. For this reason, religious communities fighting to retain marriage as a traditional union between a man and woman are continuously losing support.
There are 1,138 benefits, rights and protections available to married couples in federal law alone (General Accounting Office, 2004). Extending these benefits to homosexuals through a domestic partnership will annihilate segregation that currently upsets the homosexual community.
37 states currently issue marriage licenses (freedomtomarry.org, 2015); however appeals processes are constantly overturning the validity of the marriages. As of the time of this article (2015), the Supreme Court will hear arguments on several marriage cases. Depending on the ruling, gay marriage may win or lose its case.
Act now and petition the White House so that the President may propose legislature amending the Treasury and IRS’s tax rules to extend benefits for registered domestic partnerships or civil unions. This will be accomplished by attaining a lawyer and petitioning for a referendum. Through the use of an extended volunteer network, a total of 150 signatures must be reached within 30 days to meet the first initial threshold. Once accomplished, 100,000 signatures must be reached within 30 days to cross the second threshold. When both thresholds are met, the White House will respond in a timely manner for or against the resolution (petitions.whithouse.gov, 2014).
The potential loss for both sides are substantial. Recognizing homosexual unions will appeal to both sides as a win-win victory. Marriage will not be associated with the union which will please the religious community, yet, afford homosexuals the same rights as their heterosexual counterparts for equality.
We will never have true civilization until we have learned to recognize the rights of others. (Will Rogers)
Join The Petition
This plan does not endanger or put at risk the lives of any volunteer as signatories have the right to agree or disagree. Through the use of social media, the cost and implementation will be free as volunteers will carry out the physical signature sheets. The signatures will be collected and assembled to a predesignated location in Orange County, CA. After the required amount of signatures is met then they will be submitted, by me, to the petitions.whithouse.gov website. Our request to extend associated marriage benefits to domestic partnerships or civil unions will then be processes in accordance with which it was received.
