Show Love In Everything You Do
It's our last week of our School series. We're celebrating all kids have learned throughout this series about how to be wise! Elementary kids are learning to "Show Love in Everything You Do" from the story in Matthew 26 of the woman anointing Jesus with perfume.
Based on the version of this story in the book of John, we think this woman is Mary, sister to Martha & Lazarus. Think for a second about what Mary's life shows us: She confronted Jesus for not being there to save her brother. Then she saw Jesus raise Lazarus from the dead. She was able to sit at the feet of Jesus and be praised for choosing the better thing. And here, we see Mary responding once again by kneeling at the feet of Jesus.
The love that Mary felt for Jesus prompted her to act and to show her devotion. Before we can even think about showing love in everything we do, which has us looking a the people around us, it's helpful for us to spend some time think about why we love: because God first loved us.
We love because he first loved us. Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. 1 John 4:19-20
Reflect
- Ask the Lord to show you how much He loves you!
- Mary's response to her love for Jesus was to pour perfume on his head. What does your response look like? What is your personal worship time like?
- How can you show love to the kids & parents coming in our doors this Sunday?
