Horticulture/Floriculture, figure out the variety and cultivar of your plants, you’ll need that for fair. Every year this is an issue.
Read, read and re-read the fairbook. It is your best source of information (besides your favorite County Extension Staff).

Wristbands - The wristbands in the packet are for our 4-H'ers and Cloverkids. It gives them free entrance to the Tractor Pull and the Bull Riding events. (it does not include the Ryan Hurd Concert). One you put it on and tighten the bead it doesn't come off!!! BEWARE!!!!

Entry information went out in the mail the week of July 4th. Please check for a packet that included horticulture entry forms and instructions on how to complete the online entry process for exhibits. Complete your online entries at: dakotane.fairwire.com (Pre-Entry Deadline is July 20th)
Late Entry Policy
4-H members are to pre-enter their projects for exhibition at the fair by July 20th, 2022 Entries that are submitted past the deadline will be accessed a $10 fee per individual. Entries will be accepted up to one week past the deadline, as long as the late fee has been paid.
Any 4-H member may enter in the Outfit challenge. Just remember these exhibits are due on Clothing Day, August 1st. For more information see page 60 in the fairbook (Consumer & Family Science—Clothing)
Don’t forget you need to know the cultivars on your entries. Pre-enter prior to august 3rd or bring the printed entry form with your entries on Wednesday morning.
Wednesday, August 3rd, from 5:30 - 8:00 pm is check-in day at the fair. Before you unload your livestock trailer, please stop by the livestock office and check-in. In order to verify exhibitors and livestock that are on the fairgrounds. This will help us with correct stall assignments and correct show programs. Reminder: Swine ear tags need to be purchased for $3.00 each at the time of check-in.
Stalling Horses - The Dakota~Thurston County Fairboard voted in 2010: That if a horse is showed it must be stalled. No veterinarian excuses will be accepted. This applies to all horses exhibiting at the 4-H Horse Show, no expectations. Horses must be stalled at the fairgrounds on Wednesday August 3rd, by 8:00 PM
4-H/FFA, Open Class (except cats, dogs, household pets/birds) will remain on the grounds for the duration of the fair. No early releases. Also see page 29 for the following statement from the Fair Board: Penalty– Premiums will be pulled for exhibits leaving the fairgrounds prior to the aforementioned release time.

When you enter your animals Wednesday, August 3rd , from 5:30 - 8:00 PM we are asking that you check your animals in with either the superintendents or Extension Staff. We want to try and ensure that our show programs are accurate. Your assistance on this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Bedding For Livestock
Once again the Fairboard will be providing bedding for stalls. You are responsible for cleaning your pens, removing soiled bedding to the dump area. Remember to not just dump at the opening of the dump area, as the fair goes on, then others aren’t able to push their wheelbarrows into the dump area.
Are still needed for the fair - Some of the livestock shows may need additional help with wrangling kids, show order, ring set up or miscellaneous duties.
Help is needed in the Exhibit hall - In the morning help, check in kids, paper wrangling, ribbon attachment, After lunch, help displaying and exhibiting items. Please contact the office to volunteer.
How to Prepare Photographs For Exhibit
You may only enter one unit of Photography., but can enter additional projects on the Other Photography section (Note these classes are not State Fair Eligible). There is a wonderful publication created by Lancaster County on preparing your exhibits. Don’t forget the Data tags that are required in levels 1, 2 & 3.
Healthy Lifestyles—Food & Nutrition
Remember that baked goods should not contain any cream cheese fillings/frostings, Meat dried meat, meat substitute pieces or melted cheese topping, as these may result in an unsafe food product. You should bring at least 3/4 of the baked product (loaves of bread), 4 pieces (muffins cookies etc) Recipes MUST BE INCLUDED WITH YOUR EXHIBIT. Want your exhibit to look particularly special? Type the recipe on a 4x6 index card for a professional look. Don’t forget to include any additional documentation required. Vaccinations are required for cats, dog (and ferrets) shown at the Dakota~Thurston County Fair. Please submit proof of vaccinations with your animal entries that are due on July 21st.

The online store will be open until JULY 10th, 2022. All orders will only be available for pick up at the Fair Office on clean-up day (July 3oth) and throughout fair week. Get your orders in early! These clothing items are not acceptable for 4-H shows.
Late Entry Policies
The Dakota-Thurston 4-H County Fair has the following policy:
Late fair entries will be accepted for one week following the entry deadline and will be accessed a $10 late fee per individual for the Dakota-Thurston County Fair.
These do not apply to any State Fair submissions! State Fair deadlines are hard and firm!
The big news is the concert featuring Ryan Hurd with opening act Dane Lewis.

Trophy Donors Needed
Have someone new who might like to donate and support our 4-Hers? Have them contact the Dakota County Extension Office.
Trophies will be presented at the 2022 Dakota-Thurston County Fair at a cost of $25.00 awards please contact the Dakota County Extension Office.
Trophies add great incentive for our 4-H'ers to excel. Please remember at fair time and throughout the year that ribbons are awarded for the merit of the project and items such as trophies should be based on competition.

STATE FAIR & OUT OF COUNTY OPPORTUNITIES
State Fair Rabbits - 15 Day CVI
Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) within 15 days of exhibition. The CVI
must list the Nebraska State Fair as consignee and will need to have the official
identification (ear tattoo) listed on all rabbits being exhibited during the State Fair.
The health papers will be checked by a representative of the State Veterinarian’s
Office. A CVI form has been created if your local vet needs a template to use:
• All rabbits should be quarantined for 30 days after returning from the show and all
equipment and cages should be sanitized once you return home.
• The NDA has created a link for rabbit owners to review information, guidance, and
links for public knowledge to increase awareness and provide guidance regarding

STATE FAIR LIVESTOCK
If you are planning on exhibiting livestock (beef, sheep, goats, swine) these animals must have been nominated in the Showstock manager site by June 15th.
Entries for the Nebraska State Fair are due by August 10th, 2020 8:00 PM. PLEASE DO NO WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE. There is no leniency in this deadline.
