A Note from Mrs. Johansen

Dear Sandburg Families,

Conferences will be held on November 21st and 22nd. Conferences will be in person and we ask that the students attend the conference with the parent. We are having two waves of conference sign-up this year. Starting this week, we are contacting specific parents by email who we need to connect with regarding their student's progress so far.

On November 4, we will send out a conference sign-up to all parents. We are using a new online platform for conference sign-up this year. When we send out the website, we will share directions for the platform's use. You will hear more from us by November 4th.

As you know, parent-teacher conferences are a great way to connect with our Sandburg teachers to discuss your child's progress. However, you are always welcome to reach out to the Sandburg staff via email or phone to discuss your child's progress. If there is something you need to ask or relay to the teachers, please don't feel that you need to wait until conference time to do so. We are happy to partner with you to support your child at any time. A staff list with emails and phone number is linked HERE. It's also available on the CSJH website.

We have After School Academic Support available every Monday thru Thursday in the library. Students will be able to stay after school to get help from a Sandburg staff member. This after school support will run until April. Students who stay after school will be in the library from 2:20-3:50 and can take the activity bus home. If you would like to have your child stay after school for additional support, this opportunity is open to ALL students.

Additionally, we run a Lunch Time Study Hall on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students can work quietly on school work during the lunch period with a Sandburg Staff member. Students sign themselves up for this study hall through a google form that is posted in the Wildcat Google Classroom.

Have a great weekend!

Erika Johansen

Sandburg Principal

1st Quarter Student Recognition

The Sandburg Staff are proud to recognize many Wildcats for a tremendous start to the 2022-2023 school year. We have a bulletin board in the main hallway to recognize students for their work in the 1st quarter.

We recognized 12 students with the Wildcat of the Quarter award. These students demonstrated citizenship, hard work, leadership, great improvement, scholarship and creativity.

We recognized 12 students with the "One of Us" award. These students demonstrated the ability to make the classroom a better place. They bring positive energy, are creative, and share their unique gifts with the CS community.

Additionally, we have identified the students who have earned the following academic recognition during the 1st quarter.

Principal's Award (4.0 GPA)

High Honors (3.75-3.9 GPA)

Honor Roll (3.5-3.74 GPA)

Overall, we are SO PROUD of the great work our students have done in the 1st quarter! Keep it up, Wildcats!

Student Sharing Survey

As you may know, our staff has been focused on supporting student engagement in the classroom environment. Our Continuous Improvement Team decided to survey our student body to learn more about students’ beliefs about participation in the classroom environment–across all content areas—and their preferred methods of sharing ideas. We are excited to share the results of a recent survey students took on October 14, 2022.

Linked here, we included a summary of students’ responses for you. Using the responses to the questions from this survey, staff and administration will work together to continue strategizing ways to encourage all Wildcats to share their unique perspectives.

The data reveals that your students are eager to share their thoughts and ideas. The data also reveals that we can do more to help our students feel more comfortable sharing their perspectives in our school community. While our teachers brainstorm ways to increase students’ participation in classroom discussion based on the results of this survey, we want your feedback, too. We encourage you to speak with your student at home about what would help them to feel comfortable sharing their unique ideas across all classes. Share your conversations with us! We are proud to be your partners in education and look forward to growing and achieving more together.
