Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
At Whittier we expect students to follow the school code “take care of yourself, take care of each other, take care of this place”. In order to recognize students who are observed to make the school code part of their student life, we have a behavior recognition system. Students demonstrating the code can potentially be given a valor point by a member of staff. We encourage staff to recognize students following the school code in the whole school environment. Valor points can then be entered into biweekly raffles for students to earn prizes. The following students were the winners of the raffle on Friday, October 21.
- Dunkin Donuts Gift Card - Gage M.
- Painting Halloween Fidget Squishys with Mrs. Gilbert - Gregory B., Paige F., Cassie V., Zac T., and Mars M.
- Making Ice Cream using Liquid Nitrogen with Mr. Knott and Mrs. Lachapelle - Bella H., Nick E., Payton B., Karlee L., Zac T., Emily B., Aliyah M., and Xavier L.

GATE Art
Middle School students interested in this year’s GaTE Art program are invited to submit materials by Tuesday, October 25. The Art Committee requests students submit three to five original artworks and a completed Visual Arts Assessment Form. Art submissions may be 2 or 3-dimensional; larger art pieces should be photographed.
If you have any questions or would like the assessment form, please contact either the Art Teacher, Mrs. Sampson or GaTE Teacher, Ms. Fanus.
District II Auditions
RSU 16 sent 30 singers and instrumentalists to Lincoln Middle School on Thursday to audition for the District II Honors Festival. These were the first in-person auditions since 2019, and our students represented themselves and RSU 16 extremely well! It takes a lot of courage to perform in front of strangers for a score, and our students prepared, showed up, and followed through on this high-stakes commitment. They learned lots about themselves and the value of stepping beyond their comfort zones. Regardless of the outcome, we are already proud of their accomplishments in getting to this point in the process. 17 middle schoolers and 13 high schoolers prepared auditions and represented our district. Congratulations, RSU 16 musicians!

Thank you, teachers
As we close out this week, I want to "shout out" their extra efforts in chaperoning the dance on Friday evening and organizing and facilitating the 7th grade outdoor learning trip on Thursday. It was also great to see their involvement and creativity in participating in our spirit week themes. I am grateful for the investment they have in our students and the culture they are working to create in our school.
Mr. Wright: Belize 2024
If your student is going to be in high school during the 2023-2024 school year, then she/he is invited to join us on an upcoming educational travel experience to Belize in Spring 2024!
When students travel, they expand their knowledge of the world around them, discover more about themselves, and grow more confident. These skills are critical for creating the global citizens of tomorrow, and I would love to have your student join me on this adventure.
Come hear all about the itinerary, activities, academic opportunities, cost of the trip, and EF’s risk-free enrollment period at our informational Zoom meeting on October 27th at 6pm.
Please click here to register for the meeting ASAP to save your seat: https://bit.ly/3VtM56r
There are limited spots on this trip, so we would love to have you attend this meeting to learn more about this exciting opportunity!
Thank you and hope to see you there!
Tri-Town Family 5K
Whittier Middle School’s Tri-Town Family 5K will return to Minot’s beautiful trails and fields on Sunday, November 13th at 10:00am. Join us as we celebrate 11 YEARS!
Our event is open to everyone: students, their families, and the community. Thanks to our generous sponsors, we have always offered free registration! This event is about getting people outside and moving. No experience is necessary. Many people choose to walk the course as a way to support our students.
Registration is up and running on the Tri-Town Family 5K website.
I am looking for volunteers. We will need help at the event in several areas. Directing runners and walkers on the course is an easy way to help. Let me know if you are willing.
