Mrs. Flynn's Class

Updates, Reminders, and Fun Things to Try!

Fall in love with a new book series.....

Last week I went to the Johnson County Library and picked up some series chapter books that I don't have in my classroom library. I've several different genres including some non-fiction, in hopes to get the students excited. I love series because there's another book waiting to be read. Students also read and recommend to their friends. I don't mind taking the time to get them and looking up the AR level for them - I just ask when they check one out with me that they are careful and respectful with the books. We've talked about how I am responsible for those books.

Valentine's Party

Valentine's Party - Students will not be making boxes at home, we will decorate white sacks to use. Students will need to make valentine's cards for everyone in our class. If you would like to donate craft supplies to help with decorating our sacks - that would be great! Stickers, ribbon, etc.

Kansas State Testing & MAP Testing Schedule

Our third-grade team of teachers got together and planned out our testing schedule. I'll share as soon as it's finalized, but I can give you the weeks we are testing now.

State Testing:

  1. The week of February 29th we will test on Monday the 29th, Tuesday the 1st, and Wednesday the 2nd.
  2. The week of April 4th through the 8th

MAP Spring Assessment: The week of April 18th through April 21st.

If possible, please try to schedule appointments around these dates. If you have something that will conflict, let me know A.S.A.P. so I can plan accordingly. As it stands, some of our times go through our normal lunch and we will need to eat lunch with a different grade level. Healthy snacks will be allowed to tide us over till lunch. Lunch is a great concern to these kiddos. ;)

Extra Credit

Extra credit is available to students - They know where it is located - some extra credit is available to print off from our classroom website. It is the students' responsibility to take, complete, and turn in extra credit.

*We are now working in our second math journal. Students will be bringing home their first one home and may turn in any pages we didn't do for extra credit.

PTO Spring Auction - Movie Night Basket Updated

We've had our first donation!!

I know it may seem far away, but PTO is starting to plan for their annual PTO Dinner and Auction. How this works: classes sign up for a basket theme, we ask for students to bring in donations, our baskets are auctioned off in a silent auction to help raise funds for our PTO. This is the major fundraiser that helps support our schools, without it, we wouldn't be able to attend field trips. PTO pays for busing and ticket amounts over the student contribution. They have also provided grants to teachers for items that directly benefit the students as well as technology items for both Cottonwood and Sunflower. Our class is teamed up with Mrs. Wolford's class and we are doing a Movie Night themed basket. This can include DVDs, popcorn, candy, etc for a movie night in, and we will collect gift cards/certificates to movie theaters for a movie night out. I'm happy to have our theme before Black Friday - there are usually great movie sales that weekend.

So far we have:

Dolphin Tail 2

Despicable Me

  • Headphones - for use with computer or iPads
