News from the Counselor
Dear HPE Families,
Harrison Parkway is pleased to announce the return of the Snack Attack program for those students in need. The program, supported by the Fishers Youth Assistance Program, is designed to help students needing a little extra nourishment to get them through the weekend until they can receive a hot meal at school on Monday.
Here's how the program works. Your student will pick up a small sack on Friday to be taken home over the weekend. The sack is filled with individually wrapped snacks such as granola bars, fruit cups, pop tarts, peanut butter/crackers, Goldfish crackers, etc. The type of snacks will vary each week. Please let us know if your child has a peanut allergy as he/she will receive a special bag of peanut-free snacks. There is no cost to you or the school. If you are interested in having your student participate in FYAP's Snack Attack or have questions, please contact Miss Magill, rmagill@hse.k12.in.us or (317) 915-4210.
Thank you!!
Bethany Magill

Easy Ways to Help the PTO
Cut your Box Tops for Education and send them to school with your student at any time. Visit www.boxtops4education.com for a list of products.
If you shop on Amazon or at Kroger, check out these completely free and zero effort ways to raise money for the HPE PTO. The prices are the same, the service is the same, you shop the same way, but a portion of the purchase price will be donated to the PTO, that’s it!
On Amazon, just go to smile.amazon.com/ch/20-0114174 to link your account to the PTO and then check out using smile.amazon.com everytime--you cannot access this through an app so fill up your cart and then open a browser to check out or shop directly on smile.amazon.com.
For Kroger, login to your online account or create one using the Kroger Plus Card number you already have or get a new one. Then go to www.kroger.com/communityrewards and enroll in Community Rewards. Search for “VA241” and select “HARRISON PARKWAY ELEMENTARY - PTO.” Then scan your Kroger Plus Card or enter your alternate ID every time you check out just like you always have.

Safe Visitor Badges
Per HSE Policy, visitors must have their Safe Visitor Badge scanned to check-in to the building. Please download the Safe Visitor App (IPhone) or have your badge ready and available to be scanned when you come into the school office. The app is in Google Play for other types of phones. To find the Safe Visitor app, search for “SafeVisitor” (there is no space in between the words).
Looking up names can lead to the wrong person being signed in. Upon leaving, please let the office staff know so they can sign you out.
If you have questions/concerns or need to have your badge re-emailed to you, please contact -Vicki Foutty at 317-594-4100.
Volunteering and the Background Check Process
Parents/visitors to HPE must have a background check on file with the school (including watching the anti-bullying video and completing the video survey) in order to volunteer in the school or to have lunch with a student. The link for the background check information can be found on link below at https://www.hseschools.org/services/other/school-safety/visiting-and-volunteering
The background checks are conducted by a 3rd party company, and there is a $13.00 fee for processing (payable online at the time of the application). Once completed, approved background checks are valid for a period of 3 years. Applicants will be notified via email when their background check has been completed and they will also notify people 30 days before their background check expires.

Report a Student Absence
If your child will be absent from school, please contact us at (317) 915-4210. You may call and leave a message on our attendance line anytime before 8:00 a.m. After 8:00 a.m., our office staff will be available to speak with you and document your child's absence. It is important to let us know your child will be absent or late arrival prior to 9:00 a.m.
If you know your student will be absent for more than two school days for any reason other than illness, we ask that you complete a Prearranged Absence Form (available in the HPE office) at least one week prior to the absence. If you notify your child's teacher of an absence via email, please make sure you also contact the office by phone or email (apowell@hse.k12.in.us) to ensure that attendance is marked appropriately.
Student attendance at HPE is vitally important. Please make every attempt possible to plan appointments and vacations outside of school hours. Regular attendance improves student performance and is expected as an integral part of our state mandated School Improvement Plan.
