Night ZooKeeper Writing PD

ALL TEACHERS should attend this valuable writing PD session as we Skype the Night Zookeeper trainer this Wednesday October 14th. He will show us around this engaging website then Cheryl McCrorey will login everyone in and guide us through next steps. Please be prepared and ready with your computer from 1:30-4:00 in the Reading Room.

Then on Nov. 13: The Trainer, Paul will visit South Staff and Students in our Gym and he says that we will be the biggest school that he has visited as schools in England are small, and the ones that he's visited in the US are as well. He thinks that we can set a record for Night Zookeeper for the most people in a building being connected at the same time.

Here is a tentative schedule for the Nov. 13:

9:00 (or as soon after as possible): whole school assembly in gym to meet "The Night Zookeeper"

9:35: activity with K,1. This will be without devices. He's going to do some animal aerobics with them, lead them into some creative drawing and ideas for stories with the animals.

10:15-11:30: 2nd grade in gym with macbooks

12:30-2:00: 3rd grade in gym with macbooks

***After school he can meet with teachers that have questions, troubleshooting, etc.

Big Shout Out to Cheryl McCrorey for making this fun event a Math Lesson! This is ALL her!!!

Make a graph at Create a Graph with our Survey Results if you have not already done so! Results were: 90 students, 22 staff members,K-17,1st- 21, 2- 31,3- 21= 112 total people "Walk to School"!!!

FYI...Davidson Civic Engagement Council

Sunday, Oct. 25th, 3:30pm

405 North Main Street

Davidson, NC

The Civic Engagement Council at Davidson College. Many members of the Civic Engagement Council, as well as other Davidson students, have volunteered at local schools and education programs in the community, and have advocated for improvement and reform within the education system. This year we seek to extend our passion beyond our campus and reach out to local community members, especially educators. One area in which we are particularly interested in is the public school education system in America. On October 25th, the Civic Engagement Council will be screening the documentary, “Beyond Measure”, brought by the same creators of “Race to Nowhere”. The film focuses on areas for improvement within the public education system in the United States and how we can reform the way of thinking and learning of our students. Please join us at 3:30 pm in the 900 Room on the middle level of the Alvarez College Union for refreshments and some thoughtful discussion following the screening. We would love for you and your colleagues or fellow faculty members to come and participate. Please RSVP with an approximate number of participants by October 18th so we can estimate attendance, but we would like for anyone who is interested to attend, even if they did not RSVP. The Civic Engagement Council hopes to see you on October 25th in the 900 Room!
