Blanket Project
This is the time of year when we focus on giving to others. With that in mind, we are planning our most special "Give with PRIDE" experience for Heavilin this holiday season. On Thursday, December 20, we will make over 70 fleece tie blankets for the patients at Peyton Manning Children's Hospital. Every child there receives a homemade blanket during their stay. And, we can't think of a better way to give during the holidays than to help kids who have to be in the hospital.
Here is how our greater Heavilin Community can help:
1) Donate fabric for the blankets.
Each donor will provide two coordinating pieces of fleece that are 1.5 yards each by Friday, December 14. Send the fabric into the school office labeled with the color house for which you have signed up. The cost will be between $15-30, depending on the fabric you choose and where you shop. Walmart, Hobby Lobby, JoAnn Fabrics all carry fleece fabric. Sign up here for the house that you would like to use the fabric that you donate: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080E49AEA82CABFB6-give1
2) Sign up to cut fleece on Monday, December 17 and/or Tuesday, December 18. There will be a fabric cutting party both days in the Viking Suite! Bring your best scissors, and plan to mix and mingle with other Heavilin parents and share in some holiday spirit between 9:00-3:00 - we will take help for the whole shift or an hour or two wherever you have time to spare. Click here for this sign up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080E49AEA82CABFB6-give
The kids and staff will work in houses on Thursday, December 20 to tie the blankets and label them with special tags to send our love and well-wishes from Heavilin to the Peyton Manning patients. And then a crew of staff will deliver the blankets over the holiday break.
We hope you are able to join in this special holiday giving project with us!
Ryder's Story
"I just wanted to tell you how much I love this particular project. My sister’s 3-year old was diagnosed with brain cancer this past March. He spent 8 months in and out of a Children’s hospital in Atlanta for treatment. He is cancer free today! Right before his surgery he was given a donated fleece blanket. It immediately became his favorite blanket and he wanted it over any of the others they had brought from home. That blanket was so comforting to him during those long hospital stays. Thank you for choosing such a meaningful project for the school to participate in.❤️"
