New Fencing
Security fencing is an important component of CFISD’s Safety and Security Measures. Installation is currently underway at 11 district campuses with more installations scheduled for the near future.
Over the years, we listened to many community members who expressed concerns about the accessibility of playgrounds and portable buildings to unauthorized visitors. When the 2019 Bond referendum passed in May, the district made installation of security fencing a priority district project. CFISD’s security fences will have card-access gates that will be locked during school days. These gates will be unlocked after school hours and on non-school days to allow the community access to playgrounds when school is not in session. The safety and security of our students and staff far outweigh any inconveniences that the public may incur.
More about campus security fencing can be found in the brief video at https://youtu.be/a35HmNw4omQ.
Thank you for your continued trust in us as we work diligently to ensure our schools offer the safest possible learning environment. Learn more about campus security fencing at www.cfisd.net/safety.
Join the Houston Zoo’s 2020 Action for Apes Challenge Answer the Call to Help Save Animals in the Wild!
Dear Parent/Guardian,
We are very excited to be partnering with the Houston Zoo through the end of April 2020 in a recycling challenge called Action for Apes. We will be working hard to collect as many handheld electronic devices (like cellphones and tablets) as possible to be recycled through the Zoo. To win the challenge, we must recycle the most approved items* by April 30. We need your help!
Please assist in this challenge by working with family members to collect old cell phones which students can bring to school to be added to collection box. If we win, we will be the recipients of a one-of-a-kind painting to hang in our hallway, done by the Houston Zoo gorilla troop!
Why recycle your unused or old cell phones through Action for Apes? To help save animals like gorillas in the wild!
Cell phones and other handheld electronic devices contain a material called tantalum that is derived from the mineral Col-Tan (columbite-tantalite). Coltan is often destructively mined in Central Africa, which is home to many endangered species like chimpanzees, okapis, and gorillas. Recycling your old cell phones and other handheld electronic devices allows for tantalum to be reused, decreasing the need for mining – an action which ultimately helps to safe wildlife!
Please join us in our participation in the Action for Apes Challenge and help us reach our goal and become the 2019 winners!!
Thank you!

ZPass Plus
Safety is the top priority within our commitment to providing safe and efficient transportation to over
75,000 students every day. A crucial part of this service is knowing when and where each child gets on and off the school bus. ZPass allows parents to receive notifications when their child enters and exits the school bus.
How ZPass Works
Students place their ZPass Multipurpose Card in front of the card reader as they enter and exit the school bus.
The card reader emits an audible beep confirming the card was read.
The time, date and location of where the student gets on and off the bus are immediately recorded to a secure database, accessible only by transportation and school officials.
Parents can sign up for instant notifications, via push or cell phone text messaging and/or email.
Parents can sign up for notifications by going to https://www.zpassplus.com/. ZPass + app is available at Google Play and the App Store.
Badge replacement fees: $3.00 for bus badge and $1.00 for lanyard.
