Groove-A-Thon Results
We did it! We raised over $27,000! Thank you to all the students who showed us you can have fun and fundraise at the same time. Thank you to teachers and staff who made this fundraiser a great success. We asked a lot more of them this year and they really came through.
Now the awards!
The Grooviest Class awards go to: Team Decremer-Norton and Team Lin. The Best Dressed awards go to: Team Burgstaller and Team Roff. Team Hall and Team Valdez raised the most money. They will all receive Park Village Penguin masks, congratulations!
The Nintendo Switch winner is William C. from Team Santos.
The Sphero Bolt winner is Dean B. from Team Decremer-Norton.
The Park Village Foundation would also like give a special to thank the supporters of our Groove-a-Thon, Christensen Realty Group and Mira Mesa Auto Tech and always our Friends of the Foundation, Jen Howard with SAM Realty, Camel Mountain Dental Care, and Tatro Lopez, LLP.
Dr. Seuss Day and Read Across America
Tuesday, March 2nd is Read Across America Day (which is Dr. Seuss’ birthday), when you can spend some time in a good book. You can read a book of your choice.
We will continue honoring Dr. Seuss with our Spirit Day on Wednesday, March 3rd: Dr. Seuss Day! The purpose of Dr. Seuss Day is to show your spirit for Dr. Seuss and Cat in the Hat! You can wear merchandise from any Dr. Seuss book you like. You can also dress up like one of the characters from his books! An example would be to dress up like Cat in the Hat or Thing 1 and Thing 2...
Another reminder that Fridays are the days to wear your PV clothing!
PV HUGS community message wall
Introducing our PV HUGS community message wall! Look in the ESS parking lot for our HUGS message wall where families can safely come and tie on a ribbon with a positive message to our PV school community. We all are in need of Hope, Unity, Gratitude, and Strength right now, and that's exactly what our PV H.U.G.S. message wall represents!
Please practice all safety precautions such as wearing masks and social distancing when coming to place a massage or read a message. Ribbons will be sent home with your child or at your next materials pick up. Students and their families can write positive words to share with their community and then tie ribbons on the fence. Thank you to our wonderful DADS group for help on the sign installation and to the PTA and No Place For Hate Student Committee for making this happen!"
YEARBOOK COVER ART VOTING!!!
It is finally time to vote on our yearbook cover! The yearbook staff received dozens of wonderful and creative entries and selected 20 finalists. Now it is time for the students to choose which one will be on the cover of the 2020-2021 PVES Yearbook!
The voting link was shared to your student on Canvas via a message from Ms. Simek &/or your child's teacher. The link MUST be opened within the PUSD Canvas/Google system in order to work. Each student gets to choose TWO pictures - one vote for their favorite picture for the FRONT cover and one vote for their second favorite picture for the BACK cover. There are small pictures of each entry on the ballot, but you can click on the Google Drive link at the top of the ballot to see bigger, more detailed pictures of each piece of artwork. The link is also listed below, but please note - you must be signed into your child's PUSD Google account (with all other Google profiles closed) in order for the link to work.
VOTING LINK: https://forms.gle/rsadZtUf7TcstPqXA
Voting opened Wednesday, February 24 and will close on Sunday, February 28. Each student can only vote ONE time... but don't worry, you do have the ability to edit your vote if you change your mind on which ones are your favorites. Just make sure that your vote is finalized by Sunday!
Remember, the identity of the contest winner will be kept a surprise! Everyone will find out who won the contest on the day that yearbooks are passed out during the last week of school. Thank you to everyone who submitted an entry - all of our artists did an awesome job!
Please contact parkvillageyearbook@gmail.com with any questions.
Happy Voting!

ELEMENTARY HISTORY/SOCIAL STUDIES CURRICULUM PILOT IN PROCESS
Learning Support Services is excited to share with our community that we are currently going through a pilot process for adopting a new K- 5 History Social Studies curriculum for our elementary schools. PUSD is piloting two State Board approved publishers, Studies Weekly and Teacher Curriculum Institute (TCI). The pilot team includes 20 individuals from a variety of backgrounds, ethnicities, school sites and experiences, including teachers, a Library Media Technician, principals and parents/guardians.
We are also actively aligning our pilot process to PUSD’s Racial Equity and Inclusion Plan, which can be found on PUSD’s Home Website, to ensure there is racial, gender, and orientation diversity and a variety of perspectives so that our students see themselves in the curriculum. We feel it is important to have conversations with community members on the pilot process and provide access to review the two pilot resources.
Learning Support Services will be hosting two community forums for parents and community members to attend. These will be Zoom sessions that will offer a brief outline of the CA Framework and Standards, overview of the pilot process, provide access to review the materials, and provide a Q & A session.
Meeting Dates:
Tuesday, March 16 from 5:00-6:00 OR Thursday March 18 from 6:00-7:00. If you would like an invitation to this Zoom session please, RSVP to the session you wish to attend. If you are unable to attend and wish to review the resources or have a question, please submit your request by clicking this link to share your information and we will email you the steps to gain access to the materials.
Learning Support Services looks forward to collaborating with our PUSD Elementary School parent/guardian community.

Celebrate with a “Birthday Book” Donation to the Library
The school library’s Birthday Book donation program is an opportunity to celebrate your child’s birthday (or another milestone occasion) by choosing a book for the library's collection. Your gift will benefit PVES students for years to come!
After the donated book arrives at the library, a special bookplate with your child's name and birthday age will be placed inside the front cover. I will also reserve the book so your child can be the first student to check it out from the library (unless they choose not to).
This program is completely optional, but new books are greatly appreciated by the students, teachers, and me! Thank you very much! -- Mrs. Fleming, Librarian
How the Birthday Book Club works:
1) Choose a book from the Park Village ES Library Wish List on Amazon any time. There are a wide variety of preselected books to choose from. You can ship the books directly to the library.
2) Complete the Birthday Book Donation form online so I know what to expect.
3) When the book is ready for check-out, your child can be the first one to borrow it.
After the book is returned, it becomes part of the library collection for other students to enjoy.
Thank you for supporting reading and learning at Park Village!
No Place For Hate
We are excited to share with you that Park Village was officially designated as a No Place For Hate school again this year! This past week teachers kicked off this valuable program with students. As a reminder, The “No Place For Hate” program was created by the national Anti Defamation League (ADL) organization and was developed to organize schools to work together and develop projects that enhance the appreciation of diversity and foster harmony amongst diverse groups. The campaign empowers schools to promote respect for individual and group differences while challenging prejudice and bigotry. Each year we will start by having all staff and students take the No Place For Hate Pledge seen here.
I PROMISE to do my best to treat everyone fairly.
I PROMISE to do my best to be kind to everyone -even if they are not like me.
IF I SEE someone being hurt or bullied, I will tell a teacher
EVERYONE should be able to feel safe and happy in school.
I WANT OUR SCHOOL to be No Place For Hate.
I PROMISE to abide by and uphold the No Place For Hate Pledge.
We will also be implementing three school wide activities throughout the year. The goal of these activities are to continue to find ways of building a more inclusive and respectful campus and to empower students to take a stand against hate and bullying. In addition to school wide activities, we have created a “Virtual Inclusion Lounge” for parents and students to access throughout the year. We hope students and parents will explore these resources together to have discussions around the topics of diversity, tolerance, and acceptance. Click here to access the “Virtual Inclusion Lounge” If you want to learn more about the No Place for Hate program in San Diego visit. https://sandiego.adl.org/no-place-for-hate. Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Your “No Place For Hate” Team Members
