Cross Country

We are excited to invite you to participate in the challenging and fulfilling sport of Cross Country this fall! Joining the team gives you an opportunity to be involved in your SMS community, make new friends, get some exercise, and develop your strength and endurance.

If this sounds like the right sport for you, please fill out the following Google Form and join us on August 10th at 9:00am in the Schmucker Cafeteria. While parents learn more about our season, students will run a timed mile. Please make sure you are dressed appropriately for this activity!

After the parent meeting on August 10th, we will begin practicing on August 11th from 9-10am. Once school starts, practices will be right after school from 4-5:15pm. Meets are typically at 5pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays through the months of August and September. This year, we have even added a Middle School Invitational on August 28th!

All PHM athletes must be registered on RegisterMyAthlete before August 6th to participate. You must have a recent physical uploaded to the site and be approved to be involved in any sport at SMS (or any other PHM school). This process must be completed each school year. Here is the link to our website that explains how to register... How to register on Register My Athlete All physicals must be completed between the dates of April 1, 2021 - August, 10, 2021. International Travel

With safety as our top priority, we want to make certain that our families are aware of the CDC's recent Order (effective 1-26-21) related to international travel. This link provides more details as well as access to frequently asked questions. It is critical that families who might be contemplating upcoming international travel abide by this Order including all required post-travel quarantines.

Please understand that if you are planning to travel outside of the country while this Order is in effect, your child(ren) will need to quarantine for the specified number of days after returning to the United States. We must comply with this Order in an effort to maintain a safe learning environment for our students and staff.

Checking Grades & Report Cards

Parents, when you are checking on your child's grade, please be sure to check Skyward. Canvas does not always have all the assignments and assessments listed. For the most accurate grades, Skyward is best. Remember you can always email your child's teachers if you have any questions.

The grades you see on the Classes screen are “live” from the teacher's grade book and will typically match what you see on the report card. At the end of each marking period, the grades are finalized and then the Report Card is shown on Skyward.

Safety Update: How Can Parents Monitor On-Line Activity

Parents,

Starting this school year, families have the option of receiving weekly emails outlining your students online activity while using Chromebooks. This online service is free and it gives parents an opportunity to maintain a safe learning environment at school and at home. Please click on the attached links to learn more about how Securly can help you.

SAFE SCHOOL HELPLINE

If you see something, hear something, say something! The Safe School Helpline is a convenient, confidential way for anyone to report information about situations that might affect safety at any P-H-M school or building. You can call the number any time of the day or night to report concerns about unsafe or potentially disruptive activities or situations including drug or alcohol abuse, weapons, harassment, bullying or threats. All calls are completely confidential.

School Counselor Supports

All students are enrolled in a course named "Class of (Graduation Year)" in Canvas and Skyward. This is not an in-person class, but counselors will use this course in Canvas, as well as emails to parents and students, to communicate important information and availability for counseling services. Students can contact their counselor individually by using the School Counselor Appointment Request Form under the Guidance tab on the Schmucker website. Parents can contact counselors via email or school voicemail.
