Oakwood Intermediate PTO

October 2017

A Message from Our Principal

Dear Parents & Guardians,

Fall is officially upon us and we could not be enjoying the beautiful weather more. Our students have settled into their routines and everyone seems to be doing very well. A lot of great things are happening at Oakwood and we are thrilled to have your students with us this year.

Our first six weeks ended last Friday and your students will be bringing home their first report cards for the year on Wednesday. Please be sure to ask for them when they arrive home on Wednesday Evening. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact their team and set up a parent conference. You can find the email addresses for our teachers here. As a reminder, parents can access their students’ grades at any time during the six weeks. This can be done through the Home Access Center or HAC. Click here for more information.

Game Day Parking at Oakwood has been a huge success as we have sold out each game this season. We hope that the Aggies continue to win so that we can take full advantage of our proximity to the stadium. All proceeds from GDP go directly to our PTO, and therefore, Oakwood Intermediate. Game Day Parking allows us the opportunity to forego any other fundraisers during the year, so please remind your friends and family to park at Oakwood on game day.

We are very excited about our Fall Festival that will be held on Tuesday, October 26 from 5:30 – 7:30. Our teachers are already preparing for this fantastic event and we really hope to see everyone there. We will have several new activities and the dunking booth will be back as well. This is also a perfect opportunity to attend our book fair.

Please make two notes on your calendar for next week. Monday, October 9, is a student holiday and Wednesday, October 11, will be picture day. Thank you again for the opportunity to work with your amazing children. We’re off to a great start and look forward to the month ahead.

Help spread the word!

Please help spread the word! Parking for $20 is available at Oakwood with just a 3/4 mile walk to Kyle. 100% of the proceeds benefit our students!

Share our new Facebook page with event details about each game. Let your friends know that they can check the event page for each game to see when our lot is full before they head our direction. The page is called "TAMU Game Day Parking at Oakwood" or follow the link:

https://www.facebook.com/TAMU-Game-Day-Parking-at-Oakwood-1283126595045230/

Mark your calendars...

Each game's parking revenue benefits a specific department or group at Oakwood. Please support your group when it is their turn. This is a very effective fundraiser and we sincerely appreciate those who offer a couple hours on a Saturday to make this possible!

Be on the lookout for volunteer details from these school groups. Parents and students are needed.

Join the effort!

A parent or two are needed on our PTO Board to assist with Game Day Parking. This commitment involves selecting 1-2 football games that fit your schedule and helping to reserve parking spaces and coordinating the volunteers to manage the lot that morning. This is a great way for a busy parent to make a huge impact!

Hat Days and helping others

Oakwood Wildcats help others any way we can. Hat days occur throughout the year and are a fun way for students to chip in to benefit those in need. Students bring $1 and participate in themed hat or other dress up days. Proceeds will be directed towards causes such as Oakwood's food pantry or, possibly, Moore Elementary affected by Hurricane Harvey. They had 2' of water in their building and had to relocate their school.

To learn more about their needs, view this news clip .

Our next hat day will be on Friday, October 13th and will also be a Tiger Spirit/maroon day.

Toiletry donations always welcome!

Oakwood maintains a small food pantry with help from the Brazos Valley Food Bank that also offers toiletries. If you are able, please drop off deodorant, soaps, lotions, chapsticks and shampoos. Both full size and travel sizes (such as free items from hotel stays) are very much appreciated! Donations can be given anytime to the front office.

With remind & Facebook, parents can receive helpful reminders and interesting news where it is most convenient.

We are hoping to go more paperless in our communications. If it's important, we'll text you if you've signed up for remind with the PTO. Please note that many teachers also use remind. Be sure to sign up for each group.

We share even more info for parents through Facebook for the school here and for the PTO here. It is encouraged that parents toggle on "Get Notifications" on the top of our pages. Otherwise, many posts will not be included in your news feed without being boosted with an ad buy. We'd rather spend our money on the kids:)
