Kindergarten & 1st Grade Class

Hello, and welcome Kindergartners and First Graders!

I would like to take a moment, and introduce myself, as a new teacher at the wonderful Academy Adventures Midtown. My name is Mrs. Gilbert, and I am beyond excited to assist in the growth of brilliant minds! I have worked and volunteered with children for fifteen years. During the 2019-2020 school year, Miss Tiffany and I have some exciting adventures planned for us.

This year, we will be exploring the alphabet and site words with our friends from Super Kids, and becoming excellent decoders and readers. When our class is not falling in love with reading, we will be developing critical math skills through Go Math. Our kindergartners and First Graders will be rounded out with STEM taught by Ms. Poling.

Throughout the year, Kindergartners and First Grade are encouraged to participate in cooking, Open Houses, and family and community activities supported and hosted by Academy Adventures Midtown.

I truly feel this school year will be pivotal with Academy Adventures Midtown's 3 A's, and look forward to a fun, safe, and effective school year. Thank you!

2nd & 3rd Grade Class

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It is with a happy and joyful heart, I accepted a 2/3 grade teaching position at Academy Adventures Midtown for the 2019-2020 school years. I am an experienced teacher, whom loves teaching 2/3 grade. It is my favorite grade to teach, and I am adept at teaching second and third grade, since I have taught 2nd and third grade in the past for 10 years. I believe in the curriculum coming alive for 2/3 grades as the students are becoming excited about learning. It is the year the students can shine as the curriculum will culminate and learning will come together, and be evident in individual, partner, and group work in the classroom, and outside of the classroom. I will orchestrate as many interesting, fun projects based learning experiences as possible. We should have many fun science experiments as well!

I love the family and community atmosphere at Academy Adventures Midtown, and I look forward to working at an excellent school which is family oriented and centered. I am married and I raised one son. Today he is an amazing, grown, self-reliant young man. I taught him to read before school started and shared many diverse reading opportunities with him. I know reading gave my son the advantage and foundation for learning. My son was a site council member in high school and college. He was an officer and a board member at the University of Arizona. Today he has served in many managerial positions. I believe he is successful, because he was an avid reader. I also love to read and write, and believe reading is foundational for every subject in school. I can’t express enough the importance of reading for our students' future success!

Please set aside 15 min. to a half hour for reading each day after school. Reading should be a normal and natural part of our daily lives. I will provide a reading log to document reading for students whom wish to document their after school reading efforts. At the end of the year, I will give a reward to the student whom has consistently read the most throughout the entire school year.

I love to set high goals and expectations for my students. I always say we work hard, and play hard. I love to incorporate fun learning activities in class whenever possible. I expect students to be ready to learn, and receive many awards for a job well done. I give class points for excellent tasks completed with fidelity. The students vote for the best reward which is suited for the class.

I also love to take field trips allocated for an extended curriculum learning experiences. Any parents, or guardians whom would like to partner with us to help with a field trip sometime, please leave your phone number with me. Thank you for your help in advance. I would like my students to experience as many diverse and varied learning activities as possible.

Please stop by and say hello, and introduce yourself. You are always welcome, as I have an open door policy. I am looking forward to meeting you all. Thank you for partnering with me for the 2019-2020 school year at Academy Adventures Midtown.

Best Regards,

Mrs. Lisa Record
