D. W. Daniel High School
Our Vision
Students at DWD will graduate with a wide array of skills
and strong knowledge base in a culture of high expectations,
generosity, encouragement, and civility.
A Message from Our Principal: Josh Young
It is the time of year again when high school students at Daniel and across the state have the opportunity to display their skills, abilities, and knowledge on South Carolina’s standardized assessments for college and career readiness.
All third-year high school students (11th graders) will take either the ACT (which was administered on February 28th) or the SAT that will be administered on March 7th unless a parent chooses for his or her student to opt out of this assessment. These tests help to evaluate students' college readiness. The tests also help teachers and parents understand how to better prepare their students for higher education. These same students will also take a career readiness assessment later this spring in order to help evaluate their level of career readiness upon graduation from high school.
These tests, which are being given at no cost to students or families, will show everyone where our students are succeeding and where extra academic focus is needed. I know that with your help and support our students at Daniel will continue to perform at the highest standards possible.
Please use the following link on the SC Department of Education website for more detailed information on these and other state assessments: http://ed.sc.gov/tests/high/

A Message from the Daniel Foundation
The D.W. Daniel Foundation continues to strive for great things in the second half of the school year, and we thank you for your support! We couldn’t do what we do without your memberships, contributions, and time spent volunteering. Our school benefits immensely from it all!
The D. W. Daniel Foundation has been busy providing monthly faculty lunches, participating in the Parent Night for rising 8th graders on Feb. 27, and preparing for the end of the year activities (already). We also funded three faculty requests for assistance with educational activities and needs. Our DandeLION shop continues its mission to serve students by confidentially assisting with needs of clothing, shoes, hygiene products, snacks, and school supplies. We helped provide needed items for students attending the Winter Semi-Formal on Jan. 20 and the Career Fair on Feb.15. We also have gowns, dress shoes (for both men and women), and other formal wear (some generously donated by M.H. Frank) for our students who are in need for the upcoming Prom next month. If you have any of these types of items to donate, please bring them to the Guidance Office or contact Maggie Bandy mbandy@charter.net with any questions. We also love financial donations (payable to the “Daniel Foundation”) to use for specific DandeLION purchases.
Thank you all for supporting the D.W. Daniel Foundation! #OneDaniel

Dancing With the Stars
SC-941's biggest day of the year is the day of the military ball. The AFJROTC military ball is an annual formal function that is planned and attended by the cadets enrolled in JROTC. This year's theme was Dancing with the Stars. We would like to give a huge thank you to the Military Ball committee (led by Allyica Griebno) who put this event together.
Every female attending the ball is encouraged to wear a conservative, formal dress. There are different sections to a military ball including a reception hour, receiving line, dinner and dance portion. The reception hour is when guests are encouraged to mingle. The dinner has multiple courses, during which there are toasts and traditions observed that are specific to each military branch. Guests are required to follow a printed program and respond correctly to each toast or tradition, including standing when the American flag is presented. This a great event for cadets to experience their first formal dinner and dance at a price that is significantly less than the annual Prom.
This year's amazing event had over 180 attendees. See below for some pictures from the ball.

Coaches Post-Season Comments:
This year's Varsity team was a very young team. Having lost three starters from last year, our team showed a tremendous amount of determination and heart throughout the season. The Lady Lions fought through adversity and continued to work hard to get better. Their determination got them to the 2nd round of the State Championship Play-Offs. This is the farthest we have made it in three years. I believe that the experience our girls gained this season will give us a good nucleus for next year to continue the success of the program.
Varsity Boys Basketball
Our team finished 14-10 overall and 5-3 in the region with a 2nd place finish. We had home court advantage for the first round of the state playoffs. With a young nucleus, we look forward to building on this season for even more success in the future.
