Music Pass-offs start this week
Wind players only:
There will not be recording assignments the next four weeks. In place of it, we will be doing pass-offs of our competition music this week.
Please tell your students to log into google classroom, read the instructions on the pass-off assignment, and sign up for one time this week and one time next week.
For Pass-offs, your students will come into my office and meet with me one on one to play a short portion of their competition music. If it's played really well, I'll mark it off on our pass-off chart. If not, I'll help them through it and we'll talk about how to practice it, so it'll be like a short private lesson.
Students are free to come in during Flex time to play for another director IF another director is free, but everyone needs to sign up for one appointment for this week and one for next week. There are plenty of Flex time spots open, and there are slots open before school on Monday/Friday and after school on Monday for this week.
Your students need to have three sections of their music passed off by the end of this week and three more by the time we leave for Spring Break. Detailed instructions can be found on Google Classroom, but I'll link to the pass-off explanation below.
Practice reports
Percussion parents, please disregard.
Practice Reports are due with a parent signature the first school day of every week. Your students will earn a grade based on the amount of minutes they practice throughout the course of the week. The rubric is below:
0 - No practice report turned in OR 0 minutes on practice report
70 - 1 to 29 minutes practiced
80 - 30 - 59minutes practiced
90 - 60 - 119 minutes practiced
100 - 120 minutes or more
Sectionals
Some changes starting this week:
- Flute/Oboe will be on Wednesdays after school
- Bassoons will be on Wednesdays before school
- Percussion will be on Thursday mornings now (Due to the change in the Tennis schedule)
PLEASE DO NOT SCHEDULE ANY MAJOR DENTAL/ORTHODONTIC PROCEDURES UNTIL AFTER MAY 20TH
If you take a look at our competition schedule, you'll notice just how busy it is, with a major event every 2-3 weeks.
Now that our competitive season has started, it’s important that all band students stay in playing shape for the entire semester. Please do not schedule your students to get braces or have any major procedures done until the end of the semester. These can take your students out of playing shape for several weeks sometimes as they learn to adjust the way they play and get used to the braces. The best time to do this is over the summer!
It’s also important to make sure you don’t have braces tightened within a few days of a performance as that will affect your students pretty dramatically as well.
Private Lessons - Now is your best opportunity to get started!
Please email me if your student is not in private lessons but you'd like more information!
Private lessons are highly encouraged and will help improve your student’s individual ability. Your student will receive one on one instruction from an expert on their instrument once per week for 30 minutes. What the high school is able to achieve is built over time and starts in the middle school. Private lessons are such a large contributor to the entire program’s success. Lessons have already begun to be scheduled, but it is not too late! We strongly encourage private lessons for ALL students!
Email a director for more information!
