Principal's Update - May 2016
Learning Blooms in Spring
Schools bloom in the spring much like flowers and trees in our SNAP Space and around the school! The bright colors of learning begin to really peek through after the many months of work on a variety of important concepts and skills.
Another Aspiring Authors' Night has come and gone, and it was amazing to see how brilliant these little writers are! Many thanks to the PTO for hosting yet another GREAT event for our students!
Our preschoolers continue to learn with a joy that is contagious as they paint pictures, learn through play, and build important social skills that will support them for life. In Kindergarten, our students have been practicing for their upcoming music concert on June 8. Early preparations have begun, and the kids already sound fantastic!
First grade students are just about to start a brand new unit on living things (one of my favorites from when I taught first grade years ago). Soon our classrooms will be filled with terrariums and aquariums filled with little creatures to observe and learn about. In the meantime, second graders are busy solidifying their reading and comprehension skills as they begin to transition as readers from learning to read to reading to learn.
Students in third grade just completed PARCC. Classrooms ran smoothly, and teachers did a great job making sure to keep the days motivating and positive. With PARCC behind them, third graders are beginning to think about the end of the year and all of the perks that come with being a third grader at BF ... the third grade party, field day fun, memory books, Unity Day at LIS, and so much more. As students prepare for the transition to LIS, teachers and staff take extra care of students to make the transition as seamless as possible.
All of the students are enjoying preparing for Field Day in physical education classes! Check The Weekly Update if you are interested in volunteering.
Thank you as always to all of you. Our parents and guardians play a vital role in the lives of our children, and we rely on you to provide that firm foundation of love, support, vision, and grace as we partner with you in providing your children with outstanding learning experiences.
