Panther Nation
From the Desks of the MS/HS Office
February 2020
As we begin second semester, this January is extra special, marking the beginning of a fresh decade.
As I reflect on the last six years or so at MCE, there has been an undeniable transformation among our schools. During this time, we’ve added a new addition to our Gymnasium, added a FEMA Cafeteria and kitchen, and had numerous upgrades around the campus such as roofing improvements and asphalted parking lots. We have added numerous programs such as eMINTS and PLTW and increased access to numerous pieces of technology for all students. One thing that hasn’t changed in the proud history of our district is the culture of committing to keeping students at the center of every decision that we make.
As we move into the new decade, the next 10 years have big plans in store. We will continue to strive to be a school that can offer unmatched educational programs, attention to each child’s socio-emotional needs, and opportunities for children to learn outside of the traditional box. Above all, we have always and will always put kids first in everything that we do!
My hope is that each and every family in the MCE community has a fantastic 2020!
Joel Carey

Student Spotlight
Jack Wiebe
Jack Wiebe is a Freshman at MCE and is active in the Civil Air Patrol. Here is his story...
"I joined the Civil Air Patrol Springfield Composite Squadron in June of 2019. Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is the civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force. CAP is focused on 3 main missions: emergency services, aerospace education, and cadet programs. We meet weekly for drill, PT, safety briefings, character development, leadership training and aerospace topics. Cadets also take Orientation Flights in the CAP-owned planes--I have already flown twice and loved it! I'm considering going into the Air Force Academy after high school, and Civil Air Patrol is a great place to start learning all about it. I recently achieved the Wright Brothers award and have been promoted to Cadet Staff Seargent."

Teacher of the Month-January
Mrs. Shannon Woodmansee, HS & Dual Enrollment Math
Here are some of the things her colleagues had to say about Mrs. Woodmansee...
"Always goes above and beyond to make Homecoming "out of this world"!
"all of the work for homecoming, tutoring, organizing staff lunches"
"...because of her work with student council and homecoming. The hallways looked awesome and to work that hard and have it postponed/cancelled had to be tough. She is a trooper and she deserves the recognition."
"...she works her tail off around this place! The activities involving STUCO and organizing payday lunches are just some of the awesome things she does around here... The school has looked awesome for both JH and High school homecomings, the pep assemblies are a blast for the kids...I can't imagine how many extra hours she is putting in. You definitely are working hard constantly... way to go, Mrs. Woodmansee!"
"...for all of the amazing work she did with stuco on the halls."
"...for doing an amazing job with the Homecoming decorations, donuts, tutoring students before school, payday lunches, and everything else that goes up and beyond her responsibilities as a teacher."
"...for the blood, sweat, and tears she put into homecoming decorating. She didn't get the appreciation or recognition she deserved and that's probably due to the snow that is on all our brains these days but she did an amazing job."
