EMS Friday Focus
October 25, 2018 (#10)
EMS 2018-2019 Goals
ALL EMS students and staff will feel connected to our school community - safe, respected, seen, heard, and valued.
All EMS students will find meaning in the work they are tasked with.
There are many realities outside our locus of control that makes thriving and not just surviving feel challenging and at times downright impossible - so the first question we need to ask ourselves is - what’s within our locus of our control that we can do?
Here is one of your colleagues suggestion based on her/his take away from Joelle’s workshop:
Regulating my own response in a cool, calm manner is the best thing I can present to kids who are dysregulated. being a consistent, present teacher can be impactful. Check out this activity - Right here Right Now as a way to do this for yourself and your students.
Here are a few other strategies:
Complete a “Not now Shelf” that which can’t realistically get done right now
Challenge yourself with Project Silliness
A simple touch - to a colleague who looks overwhelmed or a student who needs to connect
Step in & help a colleague and/or a student who looks in need
Consider the Tier 1 strategies from our RP inservice yesterday
This weekend take some time to RE-spect - look again and consider how you are working to thrive not just survive.
With gratitude and in partnership,
Meg

October is a challenging month for educators. In our quest to survive, it's challenging to be mindful that sometimes our students need tangible evidence of how much you love what you do. Students teachers take risks, are silly, play a game, and/or go off script. This chapter called "Joy Factor" from Teach Like A Champion by Doug Lemov provides a few simple strategies that we all might consider as we look to share our love of what we do, outwardly with students.
