Poston Road's TIGER Tracks

Once a Tiger, Always a Tiger

April 2021 Newsletter

A Note from Mrs. Vlcan

Happy Spring! I hope everyone enjoyed their spring break and was able to spend some quality time with their kids. As I reflected on my spring break and realized that I only have two spring beaks left with my son before he graduates high school, it really put into perspective the importance of quality family time for me.

As we begin to wrap up the 2020-2021 school year up, I want to remind 3rd and 4th-grade parents about the ILEARN test coming up. Below you will find specific testing dates for each grade. In addition to ILEARN, our 3rd-grade students just completed the IREAD-3 test before the break. Results are in and I will be contacting families soon about their child's performance.

This spring, we are still not able to have large gatherings or celebrations. Therefore, our traditional end-of-the-year festivities will look different than in years past. However, our plan is to make sure that your child still feels special and enjoys the last couple of months of the school year. If your child is in 4th grade, we will be recognizing them during a daytime program that will only include staff and students. We will begin the planning of that event soon and will make sure that we find some way for parents to either view the program live or through a recorded version after the event.

Finally, we are always looking for ways to increase our enrollment at Poston Road Elementary and in the district as a whole. What better use of our resources than through word of mouth from our already dedicated Poston families! If you love our school, share that love with others who may be on the fence about returning to in-person school in the Fall or those who currently attend other institutions. Tell them to call me! I would love to talk to them about the AMAZING opportunities Poston Road Elementary and the MSD of Martinsville have to offer their child!

As always, thank you for your support,

Mrs. Vlcan, Principal

Enroll Your Kindergartener in the Spanish Immersion Program!

Did you know that people who speak more than one language have improved memory, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, enhanced concentration, ability to multitask, and better listening skills?

Our Spanish Immersion program at Poston Road Elementary allows students the opportunity to learn Spanish through their daily subject areas all while mastering the same academic standards required by the state as the non-Spanish Immersion students. At the elementary level, the program begins in kindergarten and goes through fourth grade.

We are now enrolling kindergarten students for the upcoming 2021-22 school year. Kindergarten students must be 5 years old on or before October 1, 2021.
