Cattle Update - Heart of Texas Fair
10/7/2018
Heart of Texas Fair
Wednesday, October 10th: 7 PM - Please meet at the Ag Barn to load up all equipment, feed, and tack for the Heart of Texas Fair in Waco. After we load the trailer, we will practice setting up our cattle. We will feed cattle on Wednesday night and turn them out in the pasture.
What to pack for the Heart of Texas Fair You will need feed for 8 feedings. We will need at least a full hay bale. It would be best if we could take both coastal and sudan hay. You will need your water buckets, feed pans, rope halters, show halters. everything you use to groom (all brushes, sprays, shampoos, combs, etc...), show sticks, and show clothes. We will be loading all equipment in the Plano ISD Cattle Show Box. Please go to Tractor Supply and purchase 5 bags each of the pelleted shavings. We will use these in Waco in the stalls.
Thursday, October 11th: 4:30 AM - We will be departing the Plano ISD Project Center at 5:00 a.m. sharp so please arrive at the project center no later than 4:30 AM. We will not feed Thursday morning, but we will load the cattle up and leave promptly at 5:00 a.m. Please do not be late. We have to get in line, get our stalls set-up, and unload our cattle before 12:00 noon. During the day on Thursday, we will make sure our cattle are fed, watered, washed, blow dried, are looking as full as possible, and are as comfortable as possible during the day. We will also weigh your cattle, turn in weight cards, and run them by the judges to be classified. Just like the lamb shows, these are very long days so please be prepared. We will go to dinner with the lamb show team at least one night, if not both evenings.
Friday, October 12th: I will give instructions on Thursday evening, but be prepared for a very early morning. We will most likely get to the fairgrounds around 6:00 a.m. in order to feed, exercise, and get the cattle ready for the day. The show does not begin until 8 AM. Friday is the jackpot show. I will have a better idea what time you will show once we find out what breed your cattle are classified as on Thursday. I certainly don't see any cattle being shown before 10 AM. As the day progresses, we will decide what our evening schedule looks like. These will be long days. Again, these weekends are fun, but we are in Waco to compete and want your cattle to look their best.
Saturday, October 13th: I will give instructions on Friday evening, but most likely we will get to the fairgrounds around 6:30 a.m. Saturday is the Junior Steer Show. As soon as both cattle have shown, we will breakdown all of our equipment. Just so that we can help each other out, we will do our best to load our cattle at the same time the Plano ISD lambs and goats load up. I estimate that we will arrive in Plano between 5-6 PM, but I cannot make any promises.
