The Wilmot Word: 9-23-22
Reminder - No School on Monday, September 26
What a Week at Wilmot
Wow, what a great and busy week at Wilmot. I visited many classrooms and enjoyed listening to students discuss characters, the setting, and the plot during reading workshop. Fourth graders were digging into their understanding of characters and understanding complex characters in the book, The Tiger Rising. First graders were working on building good reading habits. Students shared a sneak peek of their books by making predictions using the cover of their books.
In art kindergarteners made adorable pumpkins and first graders shared their turtle pictures with me. I even heard first graders sing a song about vertical and horizontal lines!
This week 16 amazing 5th graders ran for positions on the student council executive board. I am so proud of these students who displayed wonderful campaign posters and shared speeches with many suggestions to make Wilmot an even better school for everyone. I loved listening to students share ideas on how we can support an inclusive school environment, raise funds for Wilmot and give back to others. Congratulations to all of the candidates! This year our elected officers are:
- President - Ian G.
- Vice President - Lillian L.
- Secretary - Mason T.
- Treasurer - Sami S.
I also want to thank Mrs. Salzer, our student council staff sponsor.
Enjoy the long weekend!

3rd-5th Grade Social Emotional Learning Survey (1st posting)
Building students’ social-emotional learning (SEL) skills is important at Wilmot School. As a part of the learning process, we will be asking our 3rd-8th grade students to reflect on their own SEL mindsets via an online survey. The survey will be administered between October 3rd and 14th, and it should take no more than 20 minutes to complete. It asks students to self-reflect on their own grit, growth mindset, self-efficacy, self-management, social awareness, emotional regulation, and supportive relationships.
Individual student responses can provide the school and family with insight into what skills the child self-identifies as strengths and others they would like to develop. The overall data helps us (the educators) identify priorities and provide targeted learning opportunities to address the SEL needs in our classrooms.
Per policy, if you would like your child to opt out of taking the survey, please contact me no later than October 1st.
