Math Night - Wednesday March 14th 6 p.m
A Look at Our Week
A very special welcome to a new student, and family, that has joined our classroom community: Reese and the Sommer-McPhails! Your children have already made Reese feel welcome, and they are excited about having a new friend to finish off the school year with.
Writing:
Our big news from last week is that we finished our how-to book writing, and the children shared their booklets with their 2nd grade writing buddies in Ms. Morgan's class. It was a great celebration to mark the end of our unit! This week we will begin our unit on Persuasive Writing. We will be learning about how writing can change the world! Get ready for lots of burgeoning activist writers! We will be identifying problems in our class/school/community/world, and using our writing to help find solutions. I will even be encouraging them to write songs to persuade their audience!
Math:
We have finished our 3-D shape explorations, and are returning to counting objects, addition, subtraction and counting on from any given number. I have been pre-assessing the children on these skills this week, if your child has mastered the Kindergarten content already in this area, I will be working on the next level of Mathematical skills with them. It is important to stretch our most able mathematicians, as well as to support those who need help meeting basic grade level requirements.
Reading:
Our days are filled with celebrating reading achievements at the moment. We had another gold medal reader this week, and some readers have mastered another level since their first gold medal. Exciting times! For those students that are reading at a first grade level, I have got some reading series books for them to delve into. They'll be working on reading with fluency, expression, and acting out the stories (I love to build Drama into everything!)
Science:
Our field trips this week will be Science based. Our Lego session will focus on weather, and our field trip to the Arboretum will give us plenty of chances to learn about the native flora and fauna in our area. We will be looking for signs of Spring.....and signs of Leprechauns!!
Louie the Leprechaun has paid us a few visits this week. Your children are enjoying writing him letters exhorting him not to make any more mess in our classroom. He has really captured their imagination!
