Happy Week of December 16th DiPietro Families!
I hope you are able to stay dry and warm on this rainy Saturday. This past week is one to reflect on. Most of the mornings we, in the office, were lucky enough to be able to hear our talented 2nd graders practicing for the concert that takes place this Wednesday. We will be opening the school doors at 1:10 pm. I can't wait! Our PTO held a successful Holiday Shop. Hope you like the gifts. We had our annual Fire Safety lessons...ask your child what he/she learned. Finally, our second graders engaged in a wonderful Birds of Prey presentation.
I have had a wonderful week seeing our teachers and students in action. Our new math program, Bridges, offers such wonderful opportunities for our students. They learn through discovery and how and why numbers work the way they do. Our teachers are truly dedicated towards teaching the program with fidelity and it shows. I am one of the lucky ones who gets to see each grade and I am able to see the connections between the grades. It is heart-warming!
CHANGE: With all the snow and students bringing in snow gear we are changing our morning drop off a little bit to help speed up the process of drop off. Once ALL of the buses have left, and we have enough staff, we will be redirecting drop off to the front of the building. This way several more students can get out of cars and we will have more help. PLEASE, PLEASE make sure that students only get out on the right side of your vehicle AND you do not pass cars that are dropping off children. Students can only be dropped off when staff are present. All staff are supposed to be with students at 8:45 am so if you arrive after 8:45 am please park and bring your child(ren) into the school. Thank you so much.
Let's have a great final week of school in the year 2019.
Your principal,
Mrs. Friedman
Indoor Recess Guidelines
Indoor Recess Guidelines
Winter and snow are upon us, perhaps a bit earlier than expected. We prefer to have students go outside for recess whenever possible and will continue to go outside when there is snow on the ground. See below for clothing expectations for playing in the snow.
There will be days when it is not safe or comfortable to have outdoor recess. As general rules, we will have outdoor recess unless (1) the actual temperature is 20’F or below, (2) the “real feel” temperature is 20’F or below, or (3) it is actively precipitating. In addition, we will have indoor recess if we deem the playground unsafe for ice or other reasons.
What to wear to play in the snow and a Request from Nurse Barros
For OUTDOOR RECESS we will use the Rule of 5 when it comes to playing in the snow. All of these items must be on, but can be sent to school in a bag:
1. Hat/hood must be worn.
2. Gloves/Mittens
3. Winter Coat
4. Snow pants
5. Winter boots
Request from Nurse Barros:
Winter is here and the best practice to keep your children safe and warm is to provide snow pants, gloves, and a hat at recess time for your children. When they are playing at recess, they may get wet, so PLEASE pack an extra pair of socks, underwear, pants, and shirt in their backpack in the event that they may need to change after recess/lunch. They can keep these items in their backpacks all year long as a backup if needed. Thank you!
