Here's what's happening in MS this week!
February 17, 2020
Dear parents,
Continue to check power school for missing assignments!
ENGLISH
6th Grade: This week we will be focusing on writing narratives with dialogue, descriptive language and engaging plot. Students will get new vocabulary words and the test will be in two weeks.
7th Grade: Narratives are due this Friday. Students will finish their stories and work with their peers to edit and publish the stories this week. Our next unit focuses on reading for information which will lead to writing an informative paper.
8th Grade: On Wednesday, students will be taking a grammar test over chapter 8. We are currently working on an essay about overcoming obstacles and that will be due at the end of the week. The third quarter will be ending before we know it and the late/missing work deadline is February 28.
SOCIAL STUDIES
6th Grade: Students will be sharing their research on a country or US state this week. They should also be practicing identifying US states and world countries, especially Europe. This week we will be looking at Europe and how European countries have affected the world.

8th Grade: Students had a test this week in which many struggled remembering the names of certain people and what they did. I would encourage you to have your students make flashcards with peoples names and what they did. This next Monday we will be going to the elementary school to read to the Pre-K students as a part of a class discussion about how we can make a difference in our world.
MATH
6th Grade: We have been working in the coordinate plane and will have a quiz over the lesson on Wednesday. Check powerschool for missing homework and quiz corrections. 45 minutes of iReady again this week!
7th Grade: 7th graders had a quiz on Friday over equivalent expressions. Quiz corrections are due this week. Check powerschool for missing homework and quiz corrections. 45 minutes of iReady again this week!
8th Grade: 8th graders will have a quiz this week on systems of equations. 45 minutes of iReady again this week!
SCIENCE
6th Grade: We began our discussion of types of energy and will continue to explore that topic as well as working on engineering their Lego robots.
7th Grade: We have been researching photosynthesis. Students set up labs testing the germination of pea seeds given varying conditions. For some students, it is the first time that they have grown a plant and it is very exciting. Students have a project that they will accomplish to demonstrate their understanding of photosynthesis. They were given a menu of choices.

ART
7th Grade: We will be finishing our squirrel prismacolor pencil blending mixing project and hopefully they can glaze their coil pots but too many have not come to finish them. Could still use newspapers or rolling pins if anyone has some to donate to us.
PE
8th Grade: Another compliment for both the 8th and 9th grade PE/health students. The conduct on the bowling field trip was excellent! Thank you!
Students will participate in 3 more days of nets activities (volleyball and pickleball) and learn a new invasion game. Warm-up activities will focus on improving cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance, muscular strength, and flexibility.
SINCERELY,
